March 23, 2002 The following is an excerpt from In Style magazine. This Season's Hot New Accessoryby Lisa Stankler
All over Los Angeles, celebrities are out and about with the hottest accessory of the season: babies. Whether it is a toothsome Tom Cruise out for a day at the track with his adopted brood or dykey chat queen Rosie O'Donnell visiting Disneyland with her store bought clan, La La Land is gaga over babies. These A-list stars and many others have discovered that nothing reflects the bright light of fame quite like a brand new, Burberry-clad bundle of joy hot from the oven. Although plenty of lesser luminaries still have the time and predilection for acquiring a family the old-fashioned way, instant offspring is all the rage among the smart set.
When a troubled lesbian couple needs the magic of a baby to bring them back together or if Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob are hot to get a toddler before the divorce papers are finally filed, there is only one person Hollywood's superstars turn to: Sondra Fischler. Ms. Fischler and her elite organization Paradigm Parenting Services have earned a reputation for discretion, integrity, and top quality.
In person, Ms. Fischler is a petite, friendly, very efficient woman always dressed tastefully in Chanel. As she shows us around the elegant main office of Paradigm, sh3e stresses that her service is dedicated to placing worthy infants in warm supportive family environments. However, rest assured that any old Jimmy or Jane Kravitz from Pomona will not be elbowing past Tinsel town's "Who's Who" to get through these fashionable doors. The clientele come to Ms. Fischler only by personal referral. She culls her patrons from an elite group of potential parents for whom money is no object. Although there is competition all over town from social workers, the United Way, and other independent distributors, Fischler sits at the top of the heap because of her taste, her dedication to her famous clients, and - most importantly - her access to a constant, reliable supply of newborns.
No sooner does a bitterly divorced fifty-something three-time Oscar nominee fresh from rehab walk into Paradigm's offices jonesing for a rush of pure motherhood than a private plane is dispatched post-haste to accommodate her.
The Paradigm Center for Parenting Excellence is located in downtown Nacierville, Nebraska. The stately facility which was formerly a Roadway Inn is filled with a steady stream of healthy, farm-fed pregnant teens checking into a luxurious prenatal suite or visiting the in-house staff of board certified obstetricians.
Procuring a beautiful baby boy or girl is a stress-free though pricey afternoon's work at Paradigm. However, more complex and challenging requests always fall on skilled and sympathetic ears. When an aging swimsuit model and her hard-partying common law bad boy rocker husband wanted twins, Ms. Fischler made a few calls, and two days later the stork made a deluxe delivery to the couple's rococo ranch house mansion in the Hollywood Hills. When all five members of hot new pop group LoveyBoyz needed to each adopt a newborn to promote their new hit album "Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby," Paradigm rose the occasion. Days late, C.J., Snapper, Deuce, Roderick, and K-Bob each were seen pushing full prams down the runway as they started their sold-out tour.
When asked about what the greatest challenge she faces in her job is, Ms. Fischler responds, "Fashion trends, fads, that sort of thing. This season the simple elegance of Caucasian has ruled. Yet, fashionistas in Paris and Milan project that earth tones such a cinnamon or lustrous canary yellow will prevail in the Spring. In the Summer, they expect the chic babies to be in a rich palette of hearty russets and classic dark browns. Of course, this wreaks havoc with my suppliers, but our discriminating public must be served.
And at the end of the day, does she ever grow weary of her travails?
"How could I?" I promote the greatest product in the world: Love. That and continued strength in the short term bond market and low interest rates make the world go 'round."
