Kerry's SUV has gas, but... where's his support?
Report by Demout, 6/23/2004
Not that long ago (last week), John Kerry rolled into Detroit for a fundraiser in his (almost trademark now) SUV, hoping for a nice fundraiser, to raise money for his campaign.  What he got, however, was a large group of Bush-supporters.

About 60 in all showed up for the event, waving signs and handing out waffles wrapped in paper which listed Kerry's major flip-flops.  When Kerry arrived (15 minutes late), the Kerry SUV drove right past the Bush-supporters, and Kerry gave a reluctant thumbs up.

Kerry has had a history of past fundraisers that didn't have very much of a turnout.  Kerry doesn't seem to be a popular fellow.  At one event, during his race against Howard Dean in the primaries, his tour bus came to a stop, and a few of the event volunteers hopped out to ask a group of people standing on the street corner if they were there to support Kerry.  Apparently, they were there, just waiting for a bus.

Howard Deans' audiences weren't much better.  They mostly consisted of union-workers who were paid to be there.  As soon as the Deanky left the stage, so did the Deanky employees, who didn't feel like working over time.

It seems, though, that Kerry had some support.  Volunteers showed up to show their support for their candidate... three of them, holding up signs that were made at the event, one holding up a Kerry placard.
Why the long face, Senator?
