| "Walking away from our veterans is wrong, and in a Kerry Administration, it will be a thing of the past!" -John Kerry, who shortly after was one of the 12 Senators to vote against the funding to support troops in Iraq. This allegation comes from one single newspaper article, dated August 14, 2003, in the San Francisco Chronicle. Pentagon officials immediately addressed the article the day it was printed, though John Kerry and the other candidates at the time took it and screamed their allegations with it. "We are not going to reduce their compensation," said Pentagon Personnel Chief David Chu. What Kerry should have done was point his finger to his own party. Under the former Clinton Administration, military pay and benefits were cut by an average 2% each year he was in office (relative to Consumer Price Index). Since President Bush has taken office, military pay has increased an average of 5.2% per year (relative to Consumer Price Index). Under Clinton, active military, the reserves, and our veterans' pay and benefits were abused. Under President George Bush, this has been restored. "Alot of wonderful people love their country but hate their military." -Bill Clinton |
