The necromancer is as to be expected a student of the dark arts.  Most people shun the necromancer clan because of their light skin and dark power.  With their power to reanimate corpses of most anything and ability to fully control the newly dead necromancers are an extreamly powerful ally against the fight on Diablo.  The dead release a sort of spiritual energy that haunts the mortal world.  The necromancer can focus these energies giving them manifestation in the corporal world.  Followers of necromancy can curse the fate of a  person or monster that he encounters by manipulating the prime energies flowing through and around all living things

The necromancer is my favorite character because of his ability to create an entire army of undead warriors and magi to fight for him while he sits back to watch or if he is an adventureous one fight along side his undead friends.  He also has a variety of magical curses that he can use to harm the enemies more with.  Best skills to develop are: amplify damage, iron maiden, life tap, corpse explosion( a note about corpse explosion,  you can use this as a chain reaction thing. kill an enemy then when there is a group of enemies around the corpse blow it up and more enemies will fall and you can keep blowing them up making a short and painless fight for you .), bone spear(this is the best spell for the necromancer as it can go through multiple targets and at level 3 has damage of 32-45 or close to that), every golem once exept iron golem, go up twice with that one.  golem mastery as many as you like.  skeleton magi and skeleton mastery, revive
