"Why didn't anyone tell us there would be these kind of dreams?"
Tom Hayes

Vincent Fiorello visits the ruins of the Marion State Penitentiary and finds it an empty ruin. A woman happens to visit that same time and tells him that no one cares about this place anymore but them. She offers a few flowers, lights a cigarette, then kills it at the memoriam plaque before leaving. Vincent ponders if her words, "I was here to visit someone whom I was important to me. My husband." have anything to do with the fact his second wife has been in hiding ever since he did some time in jail.

While back in Orpheus, Robert Channing and Shepherd Remington spend some time working out and getting more physically fit. Though the day seems fun at first with both sides tossing jokes at one another, a foreshadowing of the trouble to come emerges when Kate Dennison and Tom Hayes are seen complaining to the Chief Physician Murthy Chandrawati about horrific dreams and nightmares.

Sheph learns that his dead father may yet be haunting their house, and turns away any attempts of his mother to reach out and try to form a relationship with him. Long disgusted by how she had carried herself in her marriage to his father, Sheph ignores her even as she begs him to give her a second chance.

"Did you or did you not fucking up a Black Ops mission? Nineteen dead, damn it!?! What is the matter with you?"
Kate Dennison

When the crucible opts to tackle a black ops mission regarding a drug lord who has been treatening a client, the group decides to take the job even if they are lacking their Lead Investigator, Andrew Everard who was busy attempting to fix some problems in his personal life... and Amelia Waldemar who called in sick. The job goes bad when the crucible encounters operatives from a rival company called Terrel and Squibb who seem to be more focused on faking a ghostly presence than dealing with one. But when the group discovers the presence of three ghosts in the house, as well as the three other projected entities, things go from bad to worse real fast. Fiorello possesses the mob lord and indulges in some freedom as he kills one of his own men, brings the death of two Terrel and Squibb operatives and mutilates the mob lord's own body with his own hands before leaving.

Needless to say, the senior crucible is aghast. And the Board of Directors begins considering dropping some members of the crucible from employment for their actions.

Fiorello receives a stern warning from the Mayor who has been secretly his patron for quite some time, but reminds the mayor to be careful himself. Robert visits Amelia's home to check on her only to discover her husband beating her up. Though he succeeds in getting him to stop, she begs him to leave them alone and tells him that she will take care of things. Pleading to him not to tell anyone, Amelia sends him away and closes the door.

Andrew Everard catches his lover, Matthew Raine, having sex with a black woman. He starts a fight and projects, leaving his body on the ground as if dead. To his surprise, both still see his projected form! Deducing the two are doing pigment, he tells the woman off to leave and tries to repair the damage to their relationship.

And just as Robert finally gets back to the Orpheus HQ to settle back, he meets a woman who attempts to exchange information regarding Nextworld Inc, Terrel and Squibb and Orpheus. Robert declines but finds himself trapped as she blackmails him with the possibility of exposing the picture of him that she had taken in front of Chains and becoming one of the first Orpheus agents to be fully given media coverage. Robert has three hours to decide and upon speaking with Tom Hayes, realises that some of the senior operatives sometimes feel that maybe it would be better if the truth was allowed out a bit.

Andrew has a nightmare. He dreams of a bloodied cradle and of a weeping baby. The baby utters his name and horrifically leaps out of the crib. Andrew realises the baby is a Lost Boy and wakes from his dream only to see the spectre actually present in the room! The Spectre runs off and Andrew sees around seven more of the spectres running away in the streets.

"Do I think you should talk to her? No. But do I think that the people have a right ot know the truth of what Orpheus is up to? I'd say yes."
Tom Hayes

The senior crucible meet with the group in a new Haunt. Kate Dennison and Hoyt Masterson have arranged for a private meeting area for the two crucibles to discuss matters concerning Orpheus and the Spectres. Sharing their views on Andrew's dream, as well as the pigment information that Vincent had uncovered, the two groups decide to try and gain more information when they can on the matter. Sheph's recent meeting with Ms. Anne del Greco herself and her apparent surprise to learn the employees are receiving far too low benefits was a matter that gave the group much hope. Perhaps Orpheus can still be made to work out better.
