"My body.. I escaped with my body right?"
JayCee Kelligan

After attempting to regroup in St. Anthony's hospital, the two crucibles realise it may be for the best to have one half of the group stay and attempt to clear their names. Amelia Waldemar, Hoyt Masterson and Chet Mason agree to surrender to the police while the rest make their escape. During this, Vincent Fiorello confronts the Mayor and attempts to gain information on Project: Flatline. The Mayor denies any knowledge, which Vincent learns to his dismay upon possessing him, is true. When Special Agent Osorio comes to visit the Mayor, Vincent attempts to get him to agree to give sanctuary to some members of the crucible in exchange for information, but the agent sees through the attempt. Vincent leaves the agent in the Mayor's office, warning him that he had just given up the chance to get things to end peacefully. The Agent offers an alternative: Find a serial rapist long believed dead and he'll buy the crucible time. Vincent leaves without giving a final answer.

The fugitives escape to a warehouse and gather their bearings. After a few close calls, they move again to a second hiding place and decide their main goal is to find whoever directed this attack. And why. Robert Channing happily learns his atm account has not been frozen, and with John, leaves to head for an atm far enough to withdraw another $2,500 for the crucible to use. Kate, Andrew Everard and Shepherd Remington toss ideas on misleading the federeal agents and the cops by making numerous purchases and reservations to leave the country.

But when JC realises her body had perished back in the assault at Orpheus, her angered state nearly injures Shep and Kate. Andrew fails to stop a spirit gun-man who seems to have noticed the warehouse, from attacking, and the crucible combine their efforts to take the assailant down. Chantal admits the ghost was a former lover of hers who died a year ago. The crucible opts to leave again, trusting that John and Robert will follow their silver threads back to their bodies to find them.

"FBI! Freeze!"
An FBI agent named Sullivan

As John and Robert collect the money and attempt to leave when the atm card refuses to be ejected, a small twist of misfortune hits. Two FBI agents apprehend a suspected pigment dealer barely a few yards away. When both notice the female agent suddenly scanning the area of other faces, they realise their cover must have been blown and move to leave. The agents fail to find them as the two walk nonchalantly away and take a cab to escape. But upon arriving at the warehouse, the two see the place crawling with federal agents and the local police. Opting to stop a bit away, Shep notes all he can before suggesting to John to ripcord back to tell the others where he is. Shep waits in the alley, hoping nothing worse could happen, but lady luck fails him again as three ghostly gangsters block him from leaving the alley and request him to step inside. A man with long hair and eyeglasses asks him if he worked for Orpheus, and when Shep (who has the annoying habit of always telling the truth) admits he was from the company, is told that they are called the Blasphemers and they have some information to offer... if the price can be met.
