REVIEW OF MEGA MAN 2
Game System: Nintendo Creator: Capcom Players: 1 Difficulty: Selectable Learning Curve: 5-10 Minutes Main Character: Mega Man
Play Control: 4 Stars out of 5 The play control is pretty nice in this one. The only problem is that Mega Man slides like every level is made of ice. Slowdown can occur when there are a lot of enemies on-screen. Plot: 3 Stars out of 5 It's your typical "Villain-attempts-revenge-on-hero" story. However, Dr. Wily builds the robot masters in this one. In the first one, the Robot Masters were the creations of Dr. Light. Sounds: 3 Stars out of 5 The sounds should've gotten some tweaking over the first game, though I do think that the Atomic Fire's fully-charged sound is cool. Graphics: 4 Stars out of 5 The Graphics are probably the same as MM1, but there are background and color improvements. However, the BG graphics don't get REALLY good until the next game, Mega Man 3. The weapon graphics are nice. The sprites all look good and move at nice clips. QUICK MAN RULES!!!!!! Music: 5 Stars out of 5 The music in this one ROCKS!!!! The fast-paced Quick Man theme, the slow, casual beat of Crash Man, the Calm and Aquatic Bubble Man theme, the sneaky Flash Man theme, the Wily levels, the Boss Battle.... this is some sweet noise! PROS: Passwords! E-Tanks! Items 1-3! Two difficulty levels! Great Music! CONS: The sound needs some work. Plus, beating the last Wily boss sounds like a big-time chore, sine only one weapon works. Ingenuity: 4 Stars out of 5 This game introduced many things like Passwords that many later Mega Man games would borrow. FINAL SCORE: 4.5 out of a possible 5 I think we have ourselves a winner. It's considered the BEST game in the series, so if you're a newcomer to the newer Mega Man games and need a trip to the oldies, this is where to start.
