| R. Rush Stenson Founder, Owner, Editor-In-Chief & Publisher of the Zephyr Born: 1987 He Thinks He was Born: 1907 Picture Attached The year was 2001, and the President (of student council) was me. I had a rakish fedora tilted to the left, and a blue and white striped bow tie that fit the fad of the times. It was a one newspaper town (two, if you count that sham, The U.S. Gazette-Monocle [ three if you count the Free Times, the suns, and the Scene as one]). The Plain Dealer had a grip on the market, and I was out to break the bond that molded Cleveland together. The paper started long before you ever knew about it, and it wasn't my first attempt at the printed press. In sixth grade Jack Stratton, a some time klezmer musician and full time slacker, and I published the little known, one time only, The SS Times. As for the Zephyr, I published nine issues, and showed one to Mr. Frey before floating the idea to the eight original staff writers: Robbie Pickering, Gates Merrimen, Doug Smythe, Tim Markman, Alex Locke, Jack Stratton, John LaMantia, Brent Ballard, and yes, one Michael Murphy, a some time business columnist and full time freestyler. (Before the first issue came out, I sacked Murphy.) Over time, the paper grew, eventually to a circulation of 100 - our fourth issue. As for me, I'm not much of a tall tale. You'll see me around. If you don't, your blind. I wear bowties and suspenders and hats and coats. You'll see me around. |
