the hypocrite's trilogy.
part 1: drowning in a world of lies.

future 1: authoritarianism.

a teenage male, ezekiel, is deeply effected when his religion teacher tragically dies from a heart attack. he tries to remember everything he can about his beloved teacher, but can't seem to hold on to his memories. he mourns his teacher's death, but is shocked when an apathetic attitude develops; he sinks into a depression, and begins to question the world as a whole, which he believes has caused the death of not only his teacher, but of everyone around him. [memory, quickly fading]

ezekiel begins his quest to criticize the world and discover why misery exists everywhere through the study of critical theory and the three futures predicted by the theorists. he takes the name democrates, a reference to the ancient philosopher democritus who presented the idea of atoms and molecules, the basic building blocks of reality. he sees his goal is to discover the foundation of society around him, and analyzing each aspect of the world. he sees the world around him as a 'chemical world', ruled by corrupt governments dictating under a faulty name of science and progress. discovering the evils of bio-engineering and the frightening possibilities created by genetic modification, democrates is further angered and is perplexed- is this a new progression, or has the government always been as evil? [chlorix]

he finds his answer when researching the past and stumbling upon a single line of data. fifty thousand people were killed instantaneously when the united states dropped the world's first atomic bomb on hirsohima, a military base during the horrors of the second world war. democrates is disgusted when he discovers the motivation behind such evil- to protect the lives of 'innocent' americans. completely outraged, he runs to the streets and mingles amoung the crowds, where he finds that the crowds do not care about one another and will ignore anyone who walks by them. democrates is saddened when he sees them walk by a teen in an alleyway- a homeless girl, singing a beautiful song. the crowds ignore her song, and she is left alone to freeze on the streets. democrates feels love, but walks away anyways. the world is not everloving as proclaimed by his religion. it is neverloving. there is no love- only sex and guns. [(n)everloving @ hiroshima]

democrates returns to his home but is still lost in thoughts; the apathetic nature of the public, the sheer number of people who are ignored or killed, and the stark nature of the government. even the upcoming election will all come down to math- who will win the throne? he sees the world as nothing more than a mathematical function, and as pointless as the homework he is forced to do. [sin]

to escape the clutches of the government, anonyminity and an orwellian society, revolution must be acheived. he realizes this, but the world is swept up in the presidential elections. [brkn naiL]

election day arrives and democrates is appaled when the right wing is voted in, through mathematical trickery and the bending of the truth. he cannot comprehend how people could choose for such a system to continue. democrates is frightened by the joy he feels when he comes up with the only way to end this system of conservative carnality- assassinate and kill the opposition. he is only further enraged when he discovers the former identity of the new president- a oil baron, son of a past tyrant and war lord. democrates understands. the system of authoritarianism must fall. [assassination]

future II: war

there have been far too many lies. far too many excuses to keep up this degenerate system. ezekiel's hatred grows stronger with each and every day; when war is a justifiable solution to the world's problems, ezekiel knows something is wrong. on the television, a horrific juxtaposition reveals itself to him. a political message from the new president... followed by a charity's plea to help the children of the world. the government does not care. some children died the other day, a result of promises, never kept. [promises, never kept]

even more children will die if the system does not change... a collapse of everything: human populations, the economy, the eventual degradation of the environment. perhaps Malthus' theories aren't just linked to population growth. [malthusian collapse]

a single explosion on television shows democrates what the world is coming to. a mechanized world of war, global terrorism, and horrific greed. the future is a bleak one, and there is nothing democrates can do about it... [the end of everything]

all of these thoughts have completely destroyed democrates' will to live. he will presevere, but may never regain his innocent view on the world. as much as he tries to maintain a positive outlook, it ultimately fails. even nature, his one true love, is being mercilessly slaughtered around him... [it'll all be over soon]

huge worldwide protests have broken out on the day of the new president's inaguration. eggs pound the limo, and thousands gather in the streets of washington to declare their hatred for the man. never before has this been seen, not even for the vietnam war. democrates adores watching the news on the television; these people have so much passion, it is completely inspiring.
the battle lines have been drawn. the war of the free begins in america. democrates knows he will be able to use this to his advantage in the future.[battle of the free]

but the euphoria was short lived. the protestors were beaten senselessly, and many were thrown into jail. "justice" came hard and swift. democrates knows there is no hope for a better future; those who fight for it are pushed down, and progress continues. everything democrates ever believed has gone away. god, respect, peace and freedom. but surely, they won't take love away? [goes away]

dragged to mass once again by his mother, democrates is forced to get on his knees and pray.
but he can manage only one thought: "why?"
a brutally conservative president; the death of his beliefs; the death of his teacher.
God must be blamed. [crucifixion]

future III: peace, never obtained

everything around him is making ezekiel angrier by the day. he is being choked by the conservative carnality and mindless advertising- drowning in a world of lies, with no room left to breathe. his peers rebel against a system they don't understand; the spirit of rebellion has been sold out. the world is becoming more mechanized, and it's soul has been raped into submission. "there's nothing left for me to believe... there's no room left for me to breathe..." [drowning]

dreams of fire, war and death every night, and a prophetic vision of the apocalpse have begun... something major is going to happen soon. [irreversible decline]

ezekiel's hatrd for the world keeps growing exponentially, with no end in sight, to the point of almost annoyance. he sees at his high school cliques forming, and people being targeted for who they are or what group they are part of. high school is like a huge hunting ground, with the predators feeding on the prey. [alone]

he sees everything he has experienced as a small mirror of the world as a whole- the highway by his house represents the urban sprawl swallowing nature; the cliques in his school are warring nations; the television is the ultimate liar; the president shows the conservative trend of the world's powerful leaders, and the protests against him show that nothing will be able to change it. and to blame for everything is God and the United States of America. it must be stopped, this machine... by any means necessary... [the fall of america]

8:46:26 a.m., September 11, 2001. American Airlines Flight 11 collides with the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.
9:02:54 a.m. United Airlines Flight 175 impacts the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
9:43 am. American Flight 77 collides with The Pentagon in Washington D.C.
9:59:04 am. The South Tower collapses.
10:28:31 am. The North Tower collapses.

this was not what i intended...

ezekiel is shocked, and breaks into sobs when the news reaches him at school. the mood is frantic- everyone is worried, including the most apathetic of students. it is a wake-up call for everyone...

what a perfect world
but don't worry
it'll all be over soon.
