this recording started off as a simple 4/4 techno beat that i called 'the nail'. it had no melody (actually, no instrumentation at all). just a beat, that went on for around 30 seconds. my initial intention was just to have a meaningless, minimalistic drum track to comment on the mechanization and soulessness of the world. of course, with this, came a pretty boring recording. but one day, after listening to aphex twin's RICHARD D. JAMES ALBUM, i was inspired to completely break down the simple recording i had and try to make it much more complex. after half an hour of playing with the wav track, i ended up with this: the broken nail. so in essence, the mechanized world must be torn apart from the inside out to make something new, something far more interesting and something far better.
