| Aldahi \all-dah-hee\ n : (1) Any fictitious character used frequently in a role play or story who has a very strong presence and is well liked. (2) Any nontangible creature or being in myth or reality of the astral plane; including imaginary friends, ghosts, and fae folk. From the time I was very small (eleven or twelve perhaps) I have played games of fantasy with my imaginary friends. This is not exactly the same as the imaginary friends had by a typical pre-kindergardener. It was a type of game played with another person where in one person plays themselves or an avatar-character (see avatar) and the other person plays the Aldahi or Toon as we use to call them, because in those days it was mainly cartoon characters whom we associated with. As I entered high school I ran into a group of friend who had played the same type of game before they moved to my city and together we formed a type of clique. We used a kind of home-made ouiji board to contact these aldahi. We wrote notes and letters which one of another of us would answer as the character or entity we were trying to contact. Through all of this we expressed our creative bends with story writing, drawing, and role-playing. (At this time we had already developed our own worlds to escape into and used them as well as the ones provided for us by such media as television and books). Today my friends and I have a wealth of creative media invented by us in those childhood days of frolic and fancy, without which Demmys World would not be possible. I am not saying whether or not the aldahi actually ever were "real" persay, but they are real to me for certainly they exist within my heart and in my mind, and anyway, its always fun to pretend. |
