I absolutely love that picture. Elaine Paige is such and awesome Grizabella. Anyways, Cats focuses on Grizabella a lot. She is an outcast, a former Jellicle. Some say she ran away to see the world, but the world was cruel, she was forced to become a prostitute to survive. She came crawling back to the junkyard, to be shunned by the jellicles. The kittens seem very curious of her, she was probably before their time. Jemima/Sillabub sings a duet with her in Memory, and Victoria is the first to touch her and accept her. In some productions, Tantomille is the one to sing a duet with her. Grizabella doesn't do any dancing, but she sings a lot, and she has an amazing voice! She sings in "Grizabella: The Glamour cat" "Grizabella (Memory: reprised)" and "Memory". In the end, everyone feels sorry for her and accepts her, and she is chosen to go to the heavyside layer. I think Demeter is the only adult which feel sorry for her, but Bomb and Munku keep holding her back. I think Grizabella may be her mother, or they met each other at Macavity's lair. |
