| Items in quake 3 are very unique. They can literaly save you a match, or kill you, you will see what I mean :) Of couse in order to use items in quake you need to bind the item use button, either via menu, or though the use of console commands. MedKit : The Medkit item restores a full 100 health points. It is perfect for setting your enemy off guard thinking that hes has the kill. Just be sure to use it before the final blow and you can come back most of the time. But not against me :)!!! Battle Suit : The Battle Suit is basically a smash damage shield. It absorbs any form of explostion, even from the almighty bfg... It also protects you from hazards like lava. Beware however, it only protects you. A direct hit from a rocket, grenade, bfg, or even the railgun will be halfed. Expect a worrying 50 points of damage. Now that i think about it, i do believe the machine gun hits are halved as well. Yellow / Red Armor / Armor Shards This item is probaby one of the most important items in quake. You dont need to press the use button for it is automaticaly equiped on pickup. Yellow armor gives you 50 armor points and the red armor gives you 100 armor points. You can have a max of 200 armor points. I think i have the points system down but if im wrong give me an email :) I do believe that the armor absorbs half of the damage from an attack. Lets say you get hit by the railgun. The railgun deals a solid 100 points of damage. So if you have say... 50 points of armor and 100 health points, you will end up with 50 health and 0 armor after the hit. Combine that with battle suit and you will pretty much be invicible for a while, emphasis on pretty much. You will be taking 25 points of damage to your health on a direct hit. So if ya had 100 points of health and 50 armor points, plus the battle suit. You should in theory have 75 points of health and 25 armor. I'll give it a check later to confirm it. Now i think the red armor is a little different. I believe that the red armor is in fact, stronger than the yellow armor. Lets say you have 100 red armor points and 100 health points. One railgun hit should leave you with 50 armor and 50 health. In theory one more hit should kill you with exactly 0 points of health. But in most cases, if you get hit again, you will have maybe 10 points of health left, and thats not including respawn health time (20 extra health points,120).. I guess thats id softwares' way of making it fair I suppose... Armor shards give you 5 points of armor each. I dont think the type of armor you are wearing changes when you reach the 100 mark... Mega Health : Nothing to much special about this item. It gives and extra 100 point of health on pick up. Try to pick it up when you have a lot of health. Then you can have 200 points of the health, the maximum. Health : Simple. Orange health gives you 50 points of health. Yellow Health gives you 25 points of health. Little tip: If your low on health when your being attacked, and you see a health sphere in the distance. Its probaby not wise to go racing to it. All they have to do is aim at the health and boom...shattered dreams... Try to get the attacker to run away form you!! If not, its better to find an alternate health sphere. Invisibility: This item activates on pick up. It makes you transparent and hard to see. On the dreamcast version of quake, the trasparency is edged out more, making it easyer to see the opponent. However, on the pc version (especialy version 1.32.) the attacker is almost TOTALY invisible. Definitely a deadly item. MoFo of them all... The quad : Alas the quad. Dispite its name, it actually multiplys your attack power by 3. But lets put that in perspective. A machine gun bullets does 7 points of damage. 7 * 3 = 21. 6 hits on a freshly spawned enemie is ding dings... Yes the machine is almost the perfect weapon of this item, if you have good aim. I guess i say that because if you use a weapon that has splash damage, you risk killing yer self. You wont believe how many times an experience player has killed himself because of quad. Lets put that in perspective. Self-inflicted damage from say .. a rocket close up on a dude or wall, will deal 50 points of damage to you, and 100 points to the opponent. 50 * 3 = 150 points of pride crushing damage. Plasma and lightning is good too but, plasma has self-inflicted splash damage as well, maybe 10 points of damage. You do the math... |
