New Zealand has some pretty strange ideas about what is a safe speed on a road, but this takes the cake. 100 km/h (about 60 mph) is the speed limit on the beach. They run buses down this beach, but I would never think of going 100. I'm not sure what they were thinking.
A view of downtown Auckland on a clear day, and a great view of the harbor. These people are avid sailors, and the water was filled with all kinds of sailboats, up to the America's Cup yachts. The next cup defense is in 2003.
This was our home for 21 days. Not too pretty, but it never let us down. This was a great way to see the North Island, but we only really needed 10 days to see it all. For a tour of the South Island, a van would be ideal. There just wasn't enough variety of scenery on the North Island.
Me doing something very adventerous, like walking through a cave. WOW!
Monica with the three little Kiwis.
This is Barney, the 1/2 dalmation, and his pillow Carbon, the 180 lb. Newfoundland. Looks like a black sheep, I know, but he really is a dog. When he leans into you, you move. Not pictured is Carbon's son, Dakota, who is about 150 lbs. When it gets cold, Barney crawls under the two big dogs for warmth, sometimes with only his nose showing. Barney is a great dog, and is very adept at sneaking unnoticed into the house and parking himself in front of a heater or the fireplace.
