Greek Slang 100 (what they actually mean):

Active Members - A fully initiated member of a fraternity or sorority.

Alumnus (plural: alumni) - A member of a fraternity who has graduated from college. The Wittenberg Chapter has a large and diverse group of alumni, all of which donate large sums of money to the Chapter.

Bid - An invitation to membership from a fraternity to a rushee. If you got one your special!!

Brother - A term used by initiated members in a fraternity when referring to each other.

Fraternity - A group of individuals bound together by common goals and rituals.

Greek - A member of a fraternity or sorority.

Independent - A person who is not a member of a fraternity or sorority.Or someone who just can't get in

IFC - Inter Fraternity Council, the representative governing body of all fraternities on campus who participate in the council.This is a very strong force on the Wittenberg Campusm, all fraternities actitvely volunteer in this

Legacy (slang: Leg) - A rushee of a fraternity who is the son, brother, or other relative of a member of the fraternity.

Pin - The member pin is worn on the chest designating an initiate of a fraternity. Pin design is structured to indicate if a member is an active or pledge of said fraternity. Every member is suppose to know there pin number!!!!!

Pledge - A trial member (usually Freshmen undergraduates) of a fraternity, who is working to become an initiate (active member) of the chosen fraternity. On Wittenbergs Campus you need a total of 16 credit hours and above a 2.25. Hmmmm.... I wonder why

Rush - The activity or activities by which a fraternity seeks new members.

Rushee - A person interested or who has expressed interest in becoming a member of a fraternity.

Lavaliere - When a member of the fraternity gives a Greek letter charm which bears the Greek letters of his fraternity to a sorority woman. Does anyone actually do this anymore, well besides the web dogg !!
