In loving memory...

The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly
Melissa joined the Delta Zeta family in the fall of 2000. The little but memorable time she spent with us will always remain within the hearts of Gamma Chi's. She brought life, light, and laughter to everyone and is greatly missed by all. Her ability to make anyone smile because of her sense of humor, monumental spirit, and her love for life could cheer up the darkest of hearts. We DZ's wish to take the opportunity for everyone to know such a wonderful soul like Mel and all she did for us.

     Melissa was not only my pledge sister, but one of my best friends in DZ. I cannot tell you how many times she made me laugh. I loved her "carefree" attitude and her outlook on life. But my favorite memory of Mel is when I got in a really bad car accident my freshman year and I could not walk well or do anything for that matter. She came up with the idea to wear sweat pants and wife-beaters with a bandana on our heads because I could not get dressed in normal clothes. Mel, Meg, and I along with some others dressed alike and went out for a night on campus. But before we left she and Meg put on a show for me to cheer me up by dressing in crazy outfits with wigs and lip sank to Cyndi Lauper (my favorite). That just showed me how much she cared and loved me and I will never forget the memories we shared in the year she was here. ~Susan Thompson, Senior

Let her find love through a hug and a smile;
But also know when it is time to let go-

    I met Melissa my freshman year when I joined Delta Zeta. Little did I know that my life would never be the same. :) She brought me so much happiness, laughter, love, and memories that will stay with me the rest of my life. One of my favorite memories with Melissa was when a bunch of DZ's went to South Beach my freshman year. That alone was an experience I will never forget! Throughout the whole trip, Mel kept borrowing everything of mine (from clothes to curling iron to my discman)...One day, I woke up from a nap on the beach to find Melissa standing in the ocean with my discman! All of us starting yelling at her to come back before she ruined it, and to that she told us to shut up because she was "having a moment". Before we knew it, a huge wave crashed into her, knocking her over along with my CD player! She kept on insisting that the discman could still work and that the water inside it now wouldn't make that much of a difference anyways. Needless to say that was my first purchase when I got back to Indy.

That is just one memory I have with Mel, and I hope by reading this, all of you can get a sense of the kind of person she was. ~Lauren Mascher, Senior

What I will forever remember about Mel, is the way she could brighten my day with a flash of her silly, crooked grin. She had the ability to make everyone around her feel special just by a simple hello when you are down or a hug when you were feeling lonely. She was that girl who walks into a room and her presence is felt by everyone and the mood is about 100 times lighter because of her. ~Meg Auble, Senior
