Delta Premier is raising the bar on expectations, creating more challenges, and increasing growth opportunities for its members. Our club will be more involved in Area, District, and International activities, and contests will be implemented throughout the club year. Every Toastmaster should make a commitment to participate in as many activities as possible. We joined Delta Premier for a reason - To achieve our goals! But joining the club is not enough, we must make an effort to attend meetings and complete our Communication and Leadership manuals. Don't get discouraged if you are not progressing as quickly as you would like. Take one step at a time - but make an effort to take a step. The more steps you take - the closer you get to where you want to be. Make an effort to crawl and you will learn to walk, Make an effort to stand and you will surely rise. Make an effort to talk and you will want to speak, Make an effort to guide and soon you will lead. But you must make an effort, if you want to succeed. Lonnie Sanders attended the Toastmasters International (TI) Convention held in San Antonio, Texas. He was proud to represent Delta Premier for TI President's Distinguished Club recognition. Duane Phillips, winner of the club's Humorous Speech contest, will be representing Area 15 in the District contest. WAY TA' GO DUANE! Deborah McNamara, Vice President Education, will be implementing Delta Premier's FunTest in the near future. The purpose of the contest is to encourage Toastmasters to rotate through all the meeting roles. Plan to participate and have fun! Delta Premier is averaging over 16 members and guest per meeting. Because of the increase in attendance, the club's meeting location will change. CLUB MEETINGS WILL BE HELD IN ROOM 3002 - OC 1 - 3rd FLOOR.
![]() During verbal communication, the listener may not detect when vowels are pronounced incorrectly. Was that the sound of an 'e' or 'i'? Did she pronounce the word using an 'o' or 'au'? Although the listener can be easily deceived, in written communications, the reader will zoom-in on a misspelled or misused word. Using incorrect vowels, or inadvertently omitting a vowel, can change the meaning of the word and the intent of the sentence! Read the following sentences and fill in the blanks: The office _____ is stored in a _______place. (stationery stationary) She made an _____commitment to help the members improve their ____ skills. (aural oral) The law of cause and _____ has an _____ on everyone. (affect effect) The _____ was a real _____ to help the wounded animal. (trooper trouper) Her actions were _____ even though it was a _____ act. (venal venial) I _____ how anyone could _____ through the woods at night. (wonder wander) He asked for a ______(to sign his name) but she gave him a safety ______ instead. (pin pen) See the difference? Remember, mispronounced vowels can escape the listener - but to the reader, a misplaced or omitted vowel sticks out like a 'soar' thumb! Oops, I mean 'sore' thumb.
