Being grammarian is truly an exercise in expanding your listening skills. You have two basic responsibilities: First, to introduce new words to members, and second, to comment on the use of English during the course of the meeting.
Points to remember:

The "Word of
the Day" should tie in with the theme of the meeting.

At the request of
the Toastmaster, explain the purpose and function of Grammarian and present the
"Word of the Day". State it's part of speech, define it, and use it in a sentence. Have the word printed in large letters and displayed so it can be seen by everyone in the room. Ask that anyone who has the opportunity to speak use the Word of the Day.
Throughout the meeting, listen to everyone's word usage. Write down any awkward use or misuse of the language (incomplete sentences, sentences that change direction in midstream, incorrect grammar, etc.) Also, listen for and make note of any "crutch" sounds (i.e., uhs, ums, ahs, etc.) and long pauses used as fillers.
When called upon by the Toastmaster, stand by your chair and give your report. Try to offer the correct usage where there was a misuse of the language and announce who used the Word of the Day and if it was used correctly.
