Fraternities are Top Notch

Contrary to popular belief fraternities can be one of the best ways to bring out the best qualities in a man. They teach truth, honor, personal integrity, and academic excellence among many other values and principles. When you put together all of these ideals and the dedication of a whole chapter of genuine men you get the product of a great fraternity that really does make each member a better man.

The Chi Phi Fraternity is one of these fraternities. For the second year in a row the Delta Pi chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity was selected as the number one Chi Phi chapter in the nation winning the most prestigious award possible the Gehring Chapter of Excellence Award. Among some of the qualifications necessary in achieving this title are campus involvement, community and philanthropic participation, and academic excellence. The coveted Chapter of Excellence award was only the beginning for the Chi Phi chapter at Georgia Southwestern State University when it came time for awards to be given out. They also took the Philanthropic Achievement Award with their participation in Relay for Life, Big Brothers of America, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital among many other civic and charitable organizations. The E. Bates Block Campus Involvement Award was yet another of their awards for their outstanding involvement with campus life. The Moose Call received the Alumni Newsletter award. Brother Michael “Bobcat” Williams received the Chapter Zeta award for his efforts as the Historian of the chapter. Brother Joshua Curtin was selected as the Gladfelter Leadership Award recipient. The Delta Pi chapter’s Alumni Advisor Brother Jim Purks was selected as the Alumni Advisor of the year. The eighth award to be received by the chapter was an honorable mention in the Scholastic Achievement Award for their ability to have a chapter G.P.A. of over a 3.0.

Awards were not the only things that the chapter has to show. Brothers Joshua Curtin and Daniel Raines received a scholarship from the Chi Phi Educational Trust for their active involvement in the fraternity.

If you don’t think all the work it took to achieve the previously mentioned goals didn’t make the men of Chi Phi any better then you are wrong. Fraternities do make better men out of guys if the men are just willing to try. You reap what you sow.
