April 24th is a significant day in African-American history: -1867: Black demonstrators staged ride-ins on Richmond, Va streetcars. -1884: The National Association of Black Physicians organized in Atlanta, Ga. -1944: The United Negro College Fund was established...
-But in the year 1932, Phi Beta Sigma established a chapter on the campus of Winston-Salem State University that would change the whole scope of campus life, but also would set a precedence, in which many other greek organizations tried to emulate, but never suceeded. That chapter in question, The Delta Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. |

The Delta Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on April 24, 1932 by five men who believed in the principles and the spirit of the organization. They are the most honorable big graduate brothers:
William R. Anderson Ruptert W. Bell Theodore B. Hayes Charles E. Martin Ruben L. Walker
We would also like to add that the Delta Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was the First Greek-Letter Organization chartered on the campus of Winston-Salem Teachers College, now regarded as Winston-Salem State University.
Throughout its sixty-eight year existence, The Delta Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated has exemplified the principles that the founders of our wondrous band lied down for us. We live everyday by the motto, "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity". Now, as we embark intot he 21st Century, Delta Alpha has made it its first priority to cater not only to the community of Winston-Salem State University, but to the greater Winston-Salem community and throughout the state of North Carolina and beyond. Also, Delta Alpha would like to bring our many achievements and accomplishments to the other major university in Winston-Salem, Wake Forest University. Hopefully, we can forge a relationship with those attending that university and one day induct male students attending Wake Forest who embody the qualities, passion and dedication required to be amongst the ranks of a true Sigma Man. |
