Love match for Scud and Delta?

SHE'S the record-breaking golden girl of Australian music. He's arguably one of the nation's favourite sportsmen. And rumours are rife that Delta Goodrem and Mark "Scud" Philippoussis are enjoying a bit of a love match.

Goodrem's presence at the Australian Open yesterday, and the adidas International last week, fired earlier speculation that the pair could be more than just friends.

Goodrem and her mother, Lea, arrived at the Rod Laver Stadium yesterday with the Philippoussis entourage, which included father Nick and step-sister Maria, five minutes before the match.

Dressed in a summery white halter top, loose fitting denim pants, a sensible sun hat and Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, Goodrem looked relaxed and happy at what was her first appearance in Melbourne since becoming ill last year.

She also wore a short blonde wig -- the same one she wore to the Aria Awards -- because her hair is still growing after chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin's disease.

When Philippoussis mishit a shot into the net, he turned towards his new companion and meekly shrugged. Goodrem responded with a giggle.

But afterwards, he feigned surprise that Goodrem had watched from his supporters' box.

"Was she? I didn't see her there," he said before shedding some light on the foundation of their rumoured romance.

"Obviously, she is an extremely strong girl to have been through what she has. I sort of know what she has been through because my father has gone through the same thing three times."

Goodrem last week supported Philippoussis in Sydney at the Adidas International and they were photographed enjoying an intimate lunch at a Bondi restaurant on Friday.

The high-profile duo were first in touch when Philippoussis sent her flowers and a note after she was diagnosed with cancer.
