SHE'S conquered the music charts, now Delta Goodrem looks to do the same at the box office.

Goodrem yesterday announced she had signed on as the lead in Hating Alison Ashley, a film based on the classic Australian childrens book by Robin Klein. The singer is still holidaying in the US with Mark Philippoussis.

Filming will start in Melbourne this year and the role is a good sign the ARIA winner is winning her battle against Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Goodrem is waiting for more test results and has not yet had the all-clear. "I have been offered quite a few roles over the past two years and while the timing for this movie is not ideal, I really felt a strong desire to accept the part of Alison Ashley," she said. "The movie will be shot over a six-week period and as I am well on the road to recovery, this will be a great way to ease myself back into work after such a long time away.

"Who knows, perhaps Alison will inspire a song for the future as well." The movie will be Goodrem's first, after television roles in Neighbours, A Country Practice, GP and Hey Dad.

A new album by the end of the year is also possible.
