Kaeira Lindriel of House Taendl'erl, Elite Lady and Court Magistrate of Rynshael

They dispatched a letter, by hired messenger, to Kaeira's lodgings in Khigatin. In it, they suggested that she seek acceptance in the Armored Flower as a Courtier. "It can only help our interests in Rynshael, to be both a prominent family and represented by a Court member," they wrote. "We should like you to seek a Court position so you may advance our own interests in trade and prosperity both."
Kaeira was angry again: here she was again being asked to put her family's interests ahead of her own. She had been happy enough, advancing well in her lessons, meeting strange people (even orcs!) and grandly sweeping through some of the Empire's finest clothing establishments. For hours she stared at the carefully scribed letter. It -would- be rather interesting to be at Court... And so, perhaps with less thought than she should have, she wrote a letter to the High Council, asking for an audience to petition for her entry. Kaeira passed through her interview with Councillor-Senior Mithran Mach'aerae well, and was duly initiated as a Courtier of the Armored Flower.

After the brief ceremony, Kaeira sat in her appointed rooms at the Castle, and set her jaw by the glow of the candles, flickering in the gloom. She was discovering quickly how ambitious she could be, and how determined she was to succeed in this new, though unfamiliar, and unwanted, task. Her family had scarce listened to her own opinions up to this point, save for which scents to add to the season's new lines, little tasks that she thought were far below her own astute judgement. If she became influential enough at Court, she could possibly turn the Perfumery around... to espouse perfumes (and hence, fashion) in her own mindset. And hence, she could ultimately control the Perfumery, through her parents. She sighed at this scheming.. She loved her family, but she knew well their own ambitions, and how common it was for elvish families to advance themselves through their children. This was a chance to turn it all around. So, Kaeira looked forward to the future, and set to push herself through the tortuous ranks and politics of the Court.

The new Courtier set to her tasks with a will, persuading a young luorsha called Irmeahu to seek his own entry to the Court and thereby earning a promotion for herself to Cavalier. The quickness and efficiency of her rise was astonishing to all observers. She continued to visit the Perfumery operations, and constantly thought of ways to assert her own will over its own day to day affairs. This, and regularly visiting with other elvish courtiers such as Artisan Amareldys Erd'Moran of Et'Thalior, kept her fairly busy. A brief flirtation with an Assistant of Teiress, Raishan Serniya, turned out to be a bright spot in what was otherwise a business-filled time. Time indeed passed quickly, and Kaeira swept through her tasks as easily as silk over polished marble, remaining unruffled even through the inevitable tumult of the Test of Thorns. Prince Orinoet was rumored to be retiring, and Councillor Mach'aerae was set to take his place, though only by the verdict of the Thorns, could this be accomplished. Kaeira kept a watchful eye on the political implications of this, endeavoring to make herself even more useful to the Flower by representing it by her presence through such major byways as Khigatin, Hyacinth, and Cadelppa. A momentary attempt to shift the time-set ways of the perfumery trade, by researching the merge of glamour and scent, turned to nothing. And though this particular affair was extremely annoying and frustrating to the young Cavalier, she calmly endured the shocked whispers. It was this effort that earned her the favor of the High Council, ruling in the Prince's stead, and the promotion to Lady. She enjoyed the new status that the title granted her, and the land that came with it: the domain of Giraleyn, just north of Roantown. A primarily agricultural and mercantile town, it had been temporarily neglected under the rule of an adjoining Lord. Again, she saw the possibilities, and immediately began public works projects for the town. Meanwhile, Kaeira and her retinue commenced the preparations for the move to the new estates.

An official letter from Prince Maeleen Nevda of Crispin arrived at the doors of the High Council during this uncertain time, and Kaeira easily got wind of the news. Knowing that the internal tumult within the Court augured rather well for her advancement, she took the opportunity to bring up the Prince's proposal to the Court: that Rynshael and Crispin begin new trade negociations, towards the goal of both better official relations and stability in the trade of all manner of goods between the two regions. After some discussion between the members of the High Council and other courtiers, it was decided that the demure Lady would take full rein of the effort to negociate a treaty. She invited any courtier who would want to contribute to form part of the committee, but made sure that her own initiative was foremost in her superiors' minds. Immediately, she took that initiative in firm rein, writing to Her Grace, Prince Nevda, and later, Executor Naitachal Ri'Tyn, of the same court. This brought her to the attention of Patrician Erianna K'Lenderael, who granted her the additional honor of performing preliminary interviews for prospective applicants to the Court. Approval from the High Council and the Patrician both made Kaeira feel sure that she would rise even higher than her already prestigious status. Soon, official recognition as Dignitary and Ambassador to the Federated Guilds of Crispin consolidated her position.

Three months after her appointment as Ambassador to Crispin, rumors began to filter back to Giraleyn about the return of Assistant Raishan Serniya to Teiress. Kaeira had heard virtually nothing of the young man since their last meeting in the Travellers' Rest, a mere flirtation at best. She had thought he had not cared for her, and simply did not return her letters. To hear that he had been fighting the Baka under the Sentinel of the North, and had been injured in the process, struck Kaeira with a dread that she was herself surprised at. She had been starting to see Patrician Elessidel Shianeer of Rynshael socially, but with the return of Raishan, her thoughts and dreams became confused. Whom did she care for more? She did not know, but first, she had to see the Assistant.
Her rapid advancement to Opulant, Ambassador, and Lady has made her an obvious target for shocked whispers and glances alike from both fellow courtiers and outcourtiers, but Kaeira serenely went about her own business. To maintain her position, she is exceedingly diligent, conscientious and responsible about her duties. Her habit of letter-writing is one way she employs to keep herself in the eye of whoever exalted personage she may seek advice or favors from. Ambition and a watchful eye have gotten her quite far. Despite this, however, she is still quite firmly female in all senses of the word. Her trademark perfume makes her a distinctive presence wherever she is, and if that does not make much of an impression, her sweet tooth certainly does. Marion, the innkeeper in the Travellers' Rest of Khigatin, is rumored to keep a special biscuit just for her behind the counter. Accustomed to gentle horses, she looks askance at wild and large beasts, hiding easily her fear of these strange-looking creatures. And, of course, her dress and love of fashion is as elegant and elaborate as she imagines one of her rank should favor. When she was an outcourtier, her chattery and fluttery manner made her easily unremarkable, toned as it was by a certain measure of inexperience and immaturity. That facade has easily fallen away, however, revealing a harder side to the woman than what was known before.
