Are We Really This Stupid?

I was thinking today, while I was toasting english muffins at my glamorous job... (I have never once said "Would you like fries with that" to a customer.) that it really depresses me that society has dropped to such a low point that all products and appliances need to state the obvious.

For example:
The toaster said, "warning- potential electric shock, keep metal objects out of the toaster" (or something like that...)

I mean really... "Oh! I guess I should take my keys OUT of the toaster.... Would that explain the power outage??"

the toaster also said:

Caution: HOT

ummmm.... you think? it's only TOASTING muffins... does that not require heat? have they invented a solar model of it that I haven't seen yet?

and then there is always the famous hot coffee dispute... The McDonald's corporation was taken for millions by an unsuspecting victim of hot coffee...*sigh*

It makes me mad... and kind of depressed... I mean, we're paying for manufacturers to broadcast the OBVIOUS to us...

But anyway.

I guess I shouldn't reprimand the companies that are only fighting back against the continuously litigious Americans that are making a killing in courtrooms all over the country.

It's not their fault that in order to prevent a multi-million dollar lawsuit, they have to make the rest of the world feel like idiots. I guess the real problem is that this country(and the people in it) have grown so accustomed and/or entranced with the idea of getting something for nothing. A hard days work isn't as respected as cheating the cable company out of $15 dollars a month... and that is just sad.
