MINOR ARCANA

THE WANDS

The suit of Wands are generally regarded as having the element of fire as their influence.  This indicates that the minor arcana cards that are in this suit symbolise energy, activity, conclusions, action and enthusiasm.

THE ACE OF WANDS:   Energy, power, new beginnings, positive influence on creative activities, ambition, inspiration, positive influence on new projects or career moves, especially regarding organisational skills.  This card represents optimism and confidence, it can also indicate a strong sexual desire, passion, good relationships, or even moving home or finding roots.

2 OF WANDS:  Indicates great willpower or spiritual power, a strong position in life.  It may be a time for important decision making, especially regarding direction or future course of action.  This card indicates a time for planning ahead, in particular with career direction, ambition or relationships.  If you are experiencing self doubt as to what the future holds, this card advises to be strong and have faith.

3 OF WANDS:  Indicates birth of creative ideas, a very positive influence over business or enterprise, and success to new projects.  Again, this card suggests laying plans for the future or looking at all opportunities that present themselves in your situation.  Goals will be indicated, but there may be a period of waiting for further developments, which are influences by luck.  This card generally indicates a time of success and good fortune, finding harmony and decisive decision making.

4 OF WANDS:  A card of perfection and balance.  There will be a sense of freedom, with the ability to express yourself clearly.  A positive card for anything creative.  Look out for new opportunities, take fate into your hands and take chances and opportunities that are given to you, take advantage of positive situations.  This card also indicates a nice comfortable environment or home, and possibility of a holiday which will present interesting opportunities.  This card may also indicate a new home, or decorating a home, and success in romance.  Often this card indicates someone who is gifted with a talent, and they should be encouraged to make good use of their gifts.  I find that this card represents giving and receiving - I see it as a hand which not only offers a lot and gives a lot, but also indicates taking - whether this be new opportunities or actually been handed something, like a present or gift.

5 OF WANDS:  This card suggests a degree of conflict in day to day struggles and minor problems.  There will be obstacles, but overcoming these will lead to satisfaction and achievement.  This may be a testing time, and can test your personal skills to cope with a challenge.  There is a lot of action, and perhaps the chaos that surrounds this card or your present situation is something you wish to escape from.  This card represents versatility and being able to achieve personal goals and challenges.

6 OF WANDS:  Indicates victory, triumph.  There is success after hard work, good news and efforts will be recognised and rewarded.  This card represents advancement, optimism and a possitive attitude is always helpful!  Belief in yourself and your abilities is represented here, as well as being able to focus and have self-confidence to succeed.

7 OF WANDS:  A card of courage - obstacles can be overcome, but you must meet the challenge with determination to succeed and courage.  This is a testing time, but will present great personal development.  There is much to gain from this lesson in life, and I often feel this card represents study challenges, a degree or graduation.

8 OF WANDS:  Swiftness, progress, movement, lots of activity, developments, conclusions, new experiences are on the horizon, possibility of travel.  This card indicates finding a new direction in life, new friendships or even new love affairs which will sweep you off your feet!  Whatever the situation, it will happen quickly!

9 OF WANDS:  Indicates power, determination, strength and persistence.  There is an air of caution around this card, which indicates that there have been past troubles and bad experiences which make you cautious in the present situation.  This card is right to indicate caution, as there could be lurking danger.  Pay attention to detail, you may have to expect changes and difficulties.  You must keep your wits about you - there could be possible hidden enemies, so watch your back.  The atmosphere of this card is quite arrogant, possibly a very unpleasant situation is brewing, but the outcome should eventually be satisfactory.

10 OF WANDS:  This card can be rather oppressive, and suggests being overburdened with responsibilities, or taking on too many projects or perhaps tasks that really belong to other people.  You are wearing yourself down and are striving to meet your goals.  Without careful moderation, there could be a possible fall - watch out for depression or stress related illness.

PAGE/VALET OF WANDS:  The personality represented by this card is lively, sociable, energetic, fun loving, charming and witty.  This indicates a happy person, who is sexual but devoted.  This card often indicates  young leo's, especially females, but can suggest any of the fire signs.  The situation represented by this card is new activities, energy, enthusiasm, new favourable opportunities and good news!

KNIGHT OF WANDS:  The personality represented by this card is someone who is charming, witty, generous, attractive personality that wins friends, someone who is adventurous, but can be unpredictable.  Also someone who may be involved in acting, art or physical work of some sort.  This card often indicates a sagittarian, usually over the age of 25 - but again, can represent any of the other fire signs.  The situation represented by this card is exciting times, travel or holidays, activity and even moving home or overseas.

QUEEN OF WANDS:  This feminine influence card indicates someone who is full of energy. She is sociable, sexual, outgoing and has a busy active life.  She can be wild at times, but is generous and warm.  She has an independent mind, is passionate but sometimes over-powering.  She can also be a loving mother and wife, but can have a dark and devious side.  This card generally represents an adult fire sign female, Aries in particular.

KING OF WANDS:  This masculine influence card indicates an accomplished individual, who has his responsibilities but is optimistic and fair minded.  There is much enthusiasm and strength about this man, who has a good sense of humour and great wit.  This is likely to be a man who can become impatient with details, but he is dependable and affectionate, and indicates a good husband or father.  He will remain calm in most crisis situations, and can be quite passive - yet commanding at times.  This card generally represents an adult fire sign male, Leo in particular.
