THE PENTACLES / COINS

The suit of Pentacles (or Coins) are generally regarded as having the element of Earth as their influence.  This indicates that the minor arcana cards that are in this suit symbolise and finances, well-being, family and security. 

THE ACE OF PENTACLES:   This card indicates material and emotional security.  There is a secure and comfortable family environment, fertility, health and beauty.  This card indicates contentment, and finding truth.  There can also be financial improvements, or receiving money.

2 OF PENTACLES:  Indicates good balance and equilibrium.  Another card which indicates emotional and material security, but also the ability to cope with everyday problems.  An easy-going and optimistic attitude is indicated, and relationships with others are smooth.  This card is a good influence on business, and of people working well together in a group.  A harmonious influence in general. 

3 OF PENTACLES:  This card indicates effort and employment.  Working hard, but getting satisfaction from valued work.  Indicates development of skills in a trade.  New opportunities regarding career change or direction are also indicated with this card, which can be good financial opportunities, and a job with good foundations.  Creativity is also shown here, and also, this card can indicate self-employment in some situations.  This card often appears when the current work or employment is getting a bit dull, or people feel stuck in a rut, and they should be encouraged to develop their skills and promote themselves.

4 OF PENTACLES:  This card indicates a secure time, and needs are being catered for after difficult times.  However, it can also suggest someone who tries to hold on too much, especially to security.  Wealth and security are important, but this card often indicates a person who finds it difficult adapting to changes.  Ideas may be cloudy, examine opportunities closely.  Generally, this card indicates contentment and balance.

5 OF PENTACLES:  This card can indicate difficulties, especially financial worries.  Life may be hard, or going through a wintry patch.  There is extra need for support.  Often, this card indicates that something is lacking in life - for example, money, love, affection.  Help is at hand, and the situation will improve, but at the moment you may feel isolated and pushed out into the cold.  Healthwise, this card often suggests the body is run-down, so watch out for illness.

6 OF PENTACLES:  Indicates success, generosity, help, care and affection.  Repayments will be made, and success comes through hard work.  This card can also suggest charity or voluntary work.  There are great achievements, success and joy.  There is also inner truth and finding the true source and meaning of a situation.

7 OF PENTACLES:  This card represents possible failure without careful re-direction.  It could be that there is no direction in life, but results will come from persistence.  There is slow growth, despite hard work.  There might also be worry about a possible failure of business or work.  Keep going through this testing time, be positive and persistent.  It may be a time for renewal.  

8 OF PENTACLES:  This card represents knowledge, and work requiring skills or great experience.  This card is a positive card for self-employment, new jobs, promotion, personal projects, hobbies and achievement of new skills.  It can indicate someone starting an apprenticeship, but having a secure base for the future.  Don't make rash decisions at this time, take things easy and be wise.  Sometimes, on a deeper level, this card can indicate looking at deeper meanings in situations, and being more aware of what is going on around you. 

9 OF PENTACLES: Indicates gain, money, security.  Appreciate your good fortune and relax.  Enjoy your achievements, and make use of your time.  This card can indicate an unexpected material gain, or success - but avoid being greedy!  This card indicates a good life, and mastering of a craft or profession.  Fate runs good here, but sometimes there is no emotional satisfaction. 

10 OF PENTACLES: This card indicates a good life, with wealth, security, support from family and friends.  There is now a sense of solid reality.  A time for maturity, achievement, improvement to health problems, and materialisation of hopes and desires.  This card can also indicate an inheritance or property.

PAGE/VALET OF PENTACLES: The personality represented by this card is someone who is hard working, practical and dependable.  Often a student or apprentice, or someone in a junior position.  This person is organised and methodical and may be involved in routine related work.  The situation that this card can represent is someone who may be bored with routine tasks, or boring work.  However, there are rewards in the long term if patient.  There is prospects of promotion, but dedication is required.  New responsibilities must be accepted.  This also indicates at times, someone who is uncomfortable in sophisticated company or situations.

KNIGHT OF PENTACLES:  The personality represented by this card is someone who is gentle, kind and dependable, who enjoys the simple things in life, but is hard working and down to earth.  This person may enjoy working outdoors.  The situation represented by this card suggests a time slow progress, but make use of time to relax and enjoy yourself.  Now is the time to take action to make positive changes, and help those around you.

QUEEN OF PENTACLES:  This feminine influence card indicates someone who is sensuous, warm and affectionate, usually a caring wife and mother.  Often this card symbolises a home-loving person, who likes entertaining at home, and enjoys comfort and security of her home environment.  This lady appreciates beauty and art, and is very loving to children.  Children are important with this card, and usually indicates a maternal individual, or someone who works closely with children, or the welfare of children.  

KING OF PENTACLES:  This masculine influence indicates a kind and hard working male, who is good natured and achieves a lot through hard work.  This is a generous man, who enjoys the good things in life.  He has much common sense, but may like to work outdoors.  Often a skilled craftsman, or sporty man, he enjoys a smooth running life.  He is a good family man, and cares deeply for his loved ones.  This man probably expresses his love more through action rather than direct warmth or words.  He is laidback, loves the outdoors, and he generally keeps secrets to himself.
