I strongly agree that Standard English should be taught in schools. Why? First of all, to be able to communicate with one another, we need to have a standard way of saying or doing something. If we do not have a set way, everyone will be so confused. I mean we as a nation have a variety of races within the body, and each race has already declared its own standard of communicating. When we come out of our regional circle and meet others in our world, we need a uniform way to function as a nation. This means that we need to be able understand a structure way of saying something to express meaning to one another. For instance, if I say, "Ryan was signed in a mental institution because she was 7:30," you probably won't understand what I am saying unless you were familiar with the meaning of certain slang words. In Standard English, this is what I would say," Ryan was signed in a mental institution because she was crazy." I definitely sure you understand directly what I am trying to say.
Although we have Standard English, it is not saying that Standard English is the best or only English for everybody to use. Perhaps, the main reason, our nation has adopted Standard English is simply because this is the structure it has been using for many years. Over the years, we have grown to be a very diverse nation, so it will be so hard for everyone to just adopt another English to be taught only in schools. If the English in school is changed, all aspects in our nation that use English has to change. It is true to say that what is taught in our schools will have impact on our entire nation and not just a group. I conclude that the Standard English should be taught, but at the same time, all other English such as African American English should be appreciated and valued, and not be looked down upon as improper.
