Ina May Carmichael:
Caledonia Cupid?

Ina May Carmichael was one of James Carmichael Sr's nieces. She was the daughter of John Henry Carmichael (James' oldest half-brother) and Sarah Jane Peddle. Ina was born in 1882 in Caledonia, NY. Was she friends with Mabel Sleggs from school? Did she introduce Mabel and James?

In 1907, Ina married William Arthur Heaman, who was James Carmichael's best friend. They lived in Geneseo in what she called "The Little White House under The Big Elm". She died in 1950. As far as I'm aware, she had no children of her own, but "adopted" the four Carmichael children.

Jef Nichols remembers a time when Granny and Grampy/Poppy sat down at the big dining room table with Ina and Bill and tried to identify old photographs. Many of the photographs the Marquardts found had labels on the back with the subject's name and then the initials "M.C." Perhaps these were identified the day that Ina and Bill at the Seneca Parkway house.

Interesting photo labeled "Ina and Dad" on the back by Jean Marquardt. Doesn't look like an avuncular pose, do you think??
