Writing Up Recipes
Writing puts a good taste in my mouth. I have associated writing with cooking things that comes out eatable.  I'm continuously panning through ideas when I am given a writing assignment.  Writing burns me mentally, not physically. There are times when I have to write, and I feel like I want to throw everything out of the window. It is much like going to the grocery store and not finding the products I need to cook my meal. It is often difficult to swallow when I have a writing assignment. My writing ideas are often half-baked. The paper comes out as a recipe for disaster. I am always thinking about what my instructor is going to imagine when he or she is reading my writing assignment. When my paper is returned to me and I see a lot of errors, I have a bad taste in my mouth. My writing is burned beyond recognition. Like touching the burner on a hot stove, it is very painful just by the anticipation of what might happen before I get to class to get my paper back.
Writing has to be mulled over in the mind before it is written on paper. We have to take a moment to digest the information, study it, and then start jotting it down on paper. Sometimes, when I have to write I take a piece of paper and serve up a number of suggestions until I have the right menu. It takes a combination of many mixtures to get the right product. Some people have an enormous appetite for writing. I am not so privileged, because often I get a mental block. It takes me a while to get my thoughts together. I look at writing as filling my plate with recipes from all over the world. It takes a lot of traveling through books, magazine, and internet publication to research the right grammar, punctuation and spelling. These resources are my cooking utensils. My strategy for writing is to always keep these utensils by my side.
Once I have the right menu, and  all of the right  ingredients, I put it all together to create my essay. I start with an enticing thesis. I compare it to having an appetizer. It is just to give you something to chew on until the main course is served. I associate the introduction, the paragraphs, and the body as the main part of the writing assignment. It is much like serving the main course of the meal; it will allow you to see, smell and eat every morsel. It will also  allow you to eat and get full. Once you have dined sufficiently on the meat of the writing assignment, it is now time to have a little desert. The conclusion of the writing is used to gracefully exit your essay giving it a quick wrap up. It gives you the satisfaction of a will prepared meal.
