922. Lawrence C Delo

Lawrence C. Delo, 75, of Plum Borough, formerly of White Oak, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in McKeesport. He is the son of the late William and Florence Ziegler Delo. Mr. Delo is survived by his wife, Maureen M. Ryan; sons, Thomas, of Wilmerding, Robert (Mitzi), of Billings, Mont., John, of North Versailles, and Doug (Michelle), of White Oak; brothers, Raymond (Lois), of Somerset, and Herbert (Billie), of Grover Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Beth, Kristen, Lauren, Brett, and Brad Delo; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, William and Norman Delo; and a sister, Florence Delo. Mr. Delo was a graduate of McKeesport High School and Purdue University with a degree in industrial relations. He also played two years of minor league baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mr. Delo was a member of St. Angela Merici Church and was a United States Army veteran during World War II. He was retired from United States Steel Corp.


Lawrence C. Delo's love of baseball began at a young age and developed into a passion that helped him land a spot on the Tallahassee (Fla.) Pirates, a minor league team in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system.

"He played sandlot baseball as a kid and went on to be a pitcher in high school," his wife, Maureen M. Delo, said. "He also played American Legion ball and for the McKeesport Daily News League."

Mr. Delo, of Plum, formerly of White Oak and McKeesport, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, in Mercy Hospital, Uptown. He was 75.

Born Sept. 9, 1930, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late William and Florence Ziegler Delo.


In 1948, Mr. Delo graduated from McKeesport High School. He played for two seasons in Tallahassee in the Georgia-Florida League.

After graduating with a degree in industrial relations from Purdue University, Mr. Delo joined the Army as a sharpshooter.

"He attended basic training at Fort Ord, Calif., and was stationed at Fort Wachuka, Ariz.," said his wife.

Mr. Delo married Maureen M. Ryan on June 11, 1955.

He joined his wife in McKeesport after his discharge in 1956 and took a job as turn foreman at U.S. Steel Corp.'s Duquesne Works.

Over the next 20 years, Mr. Delo would be transferred to the Homestead Works. He retired as a general foreman in the soaking pits in 1984 from the Edgar Thomson plant in Braddock.

In 1974, the Delos moved from McKeesport to White Oak, and again in 1996 to Plum.

While in White Oak, Mr. Delo briefly coached baseball in the White Oak Athletic Association.

Doug Delo recalled his father as a hard worker who set an example for his family.

"He was always there when we needed him," he said. "When Dad was working steady daylight shifts, he made himself available to support us in all our activities."

"He set very high standards for them but was attentive," his wife said.

Aside from watching baseball, Mr. Delo enjoyed attending Steelers games.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen M. Ryan Delo; four sons, Thomas Delo, of Wilmerding, Robert Delo, of Billings, Mont., John Delo, of North Versailles, and Doug Delo, of White Oak; two brothers, Raymond Delo, of Somerset, Somerset County, and Herbert Delo, of Grover Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Norman Delo; and a sister, Florence Delo.

931. Dawn L Delo

Dawn L. Dichiera, 70, of Elizabeth Township, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at UPMC McKeesport, after a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by her children. She was born April 3, 1937, in White Oak, daughter of the late Charles Delo and the Bertha Wisser Delo Kuckert. She was the wife of the late Peter Dichiera, who died Dec. 23, 2000. She was a member of the Rainbow Temple Assembly of God, McKeesport, and the White Oak AARP. She had worked for Isaly's, where she met her husband, Pete, and had also worked for the Elizabeth Forward School District and Dressed to a T. Dawn was an inspiration to everyone around her because of her courage, grace and dignity. She is survived by daughters, Tammy (Rob) Wampler, of West Chester, Tracy (Dominic) DiClaudio, of Elizabeth Township, Terri (Michael) McClements, of Clifton, Va., Tina (Dante) Marraccini, of Port Vue; son, Tim Dichiera, of Elizabeth Township; grandchildren, Bob, Todd and Julie Wampler, Nick, Gina and Anthony Dichiera, Chris and Jennifer DiClaudio, Matthew McClements, Danielle and Jesse DeRosa, Max Marraccini and Derek Dichiera; a great-grandson, Bryce Carter; and nieces and nephews.


Peter Dichera

PETER DICHIERA
Peter Dichiera, 73, of Elizabeth Twp. died Saturday in UPMC McKeesport. A master plumber and partner in the former Dichiera Brothers Plumbing in Glassport, he was a member of Local Plumbers Union 27, Al-O-Mon Forest 138, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and East McKeesport Lodge 765, F. & A. Masons. A life member of the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Co., he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.
Born May 21, 1927, in Glassport, he was the son of the late Peter Dichiera and Rose Mazza Dichiera Randazzo. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Delo Dichiera; daughters, Tammy D. Wampler of West Chester, Tracy L. DiClaudio of Mount Vernon, Terri D. McClements of Fairfax, Va., and Tina L. DeRosa Marraccini of Port Vue; son, Tim L. Dichiera of Elizabeth Twp.; 12 grandchildren; sister, Marie Campitelle of Indianapolis, Ind.; nieces and nephews.


932. George Day Delo

George Day was born in Braddock, Pa. He married Evelyn Shank (November 28, 1911 - * ) on September 2, 1933. . George was a Director of Community Development Division of the Governor's office - part of the Industrial Development Division.


934. John(JacK) Charles Delo

John Charles (Jr.) (May 27, 1914 - * ) was also born in Braddock, Pa. He was employed as Production Rep. for US Steel Corp., in Pgh from 1946 - 1951, and then Plant Manager at the Johnstown, Pa. plant. His first marriage, on August 23, 1940 was to Georgette Casselman, by whom his two children were born. His second marriage, on May 8, 1965, was to Anne Guckenberger

Barbara Day ( married Patrick J. Fillette on June 19, 1965. His field is insurance; they reside near Philadelphia.


936. David Lamar Delo

David Lamar was born in Duquesne. He lived in Kokomo, Ind. He and Ethel Hawworth were married on August 18, 1936 and had one daughter.


938. Elmer Lewis Delo

Elmer Delo died Sunday Jan. 13 1985, in Boswell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sharon, Pa, Jan 15 1911.He was a graduate of Kokomo High School 1929 and attended Indiana University. He was employed for 33 years as a sales representative for Haynes Stellite Division of Union Carbide and was transferred to Phoenix from Lakewood, Ohio, in 1960.
He was a member of Howard Masonic Lodge 93 in Kokomo, First United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite of Sun City and Alpha Tau Omega. Elmer had participated in art showings and was an art instructor in Sun City.


939. Edwin H Delo

Edwin H. attended Gammon College in Erie, Pa., and became a chemist. Between 1951 and 1955 he served with the US Air Force, during which time he married Jo R. Dugan in Hollywood, California. Edwin lived in Meadville, Pa.


943. Jenette E Hickernell

Jeannette E. Hickernell Johnson Jeannette E. Hickernell Johnson, 79, of the Chestnut Street Senior Apartments in Fairview, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West after a brief illness. Born in Meadville February 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Delo Hickernell Smith and Melvin D. Hickernell. She had been a crossing guard for the Millcreek Schools for 30 years at Ridgefield School and later at Clinton and Gore Road. Jeannette was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Ruth Circle. She enjoyed exercising and camping. She was a hard worker and never tired until the end. She took pride in, and everyone enjoyed, her beautiful flower garden at the apartment complex where she lived. She loved to travel and visit family, and enjoyed many bus trips with close friends. Playing cards and baking were a favorite past time. Most importantly was her family and her faith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William C. Johnson, in 2002, and her brother, Melvin Hickernell. Survivors include three sons, Paul W. Johnson, wife Susan, of Girard, Ricky C. Johnson, wife Tammy, of Clarksville, Tenn., and John A. Johnson, wife Becky, of Broadview, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kurt Johnson, wife Lori, of New Kensington, Pa.; Shawn Johnson, wife Valerie, of West Springfield, Pa., Brandi Stanley of Clarksville, Tenn., Christopher Johnson, serving in Iraq, Jamie Johnson at Fort Eustis, Va., Erin Johnson and Benjamin Johnson of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Kaylee, Erik, Tyler, Lucas, Nathan and Hallie; two brothers, Max Hickernell, wife Juanita, of Meadville, and Dusty Hickernell, wife Martha, of Boone, N.C.; a sister, Harriet Smock, of Middlefield, Ohio, many nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Kay
