Avery was a native of Mount Pleasant, Mich., who came to the Florida area from Michigan in 1989. He was a retired PBX supervisor for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He was veteran of World War II and the Korean War while serving as a first lieutenant for the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart during World War II. He was a member of Telephone Pioneer's Club, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Avery was on the Taylor Beautification Committee, president of Tri-town Mens Garden Club & Detroit Rose & Chrysanthemum & Taylor Election Board. Moved to Winter Haven in 1989.
