-IN THE INTERIM
Justins in Vegas with some chick from LA on his arm. Her eyes are brown, her hair is brown, her skin is stained yellow, and her teeth are bleached white. He cant quite remember her name, and neither can she. The sevens are all that matter, the sex is just okay, and hes convinced the reason hes winning is the good luck charm with the hot pink nails and fire engine red lipstick. She knows he needs to go, but still she says, Stay with me tonight.
And he stays.
Just to keep her company, he stays.
Justins in Philly with some chick from Vegas on his arm. Her eyes are blue, her hair is blonde, her skin is stained yellow, and her teeth are bleached white. Her name is Collette, last time he checked. But that was some time yesterday. Philly gets chilly at night. The roads mist and the streetlights twist wickedly in the blustery December shadows. She clings to his coat, not bothering to pull hers tighter around herself, and she watches the puddles reflect the clouds. Her jaw chattering, she shudders out the words, Stay with me tonight.
And he stays.
Just because its such an ominous night, he stays.
Justins in New York City with some chick from Philly on his arm. Her eyes are brown, her hair is blonde, her skin is stained yellow, and her teeth are bleached white. He guessed her name last night, but apparently it wasnt Marcia. She didnt seem to mind. A birthday party was thrown for him, and he made an appearance for a matter of minutes. Marcia didnt come. Her reason? She didnt belong with those kinds of people. He asked her what she meant, she told him never mind, he said thats fine with me, and left her behind. She called his name when he reached the door, and he paused for a moment. Her voice was all but demanding. Stay with me tonight.
And he stays.
Just to give a present to himself, he stays.
Justins in Miami with some chick from New York on his arm. Her eyes are blue, her hair is brown, her skin is stained yellow, and her teeth are bleached white. He gave up with the name and avoided any situation where he might need to use it. Valentines Day was as annoying as it had been the year before. He bought her candy, a box of chocolates to be exact, and a white teddy bear with a pink velvet ribbon on its head. She bought him a card and a white teddy bear with a red velvet ribbon on its head. They laughed some phony laughs, talked some phony talks, and lay in bed all day with the blinds shut and the phone off the hook. He told her he had to go, she pleaded with him not to, and said, Stay with me tonight.
And he stays.
Just because it was Valentines Day, he stays.
Justins in Virginia with this girl from Miami on his arm. Her eyes are green, her hair is firey red, her skin is velvety white, and her teeth have coffee stains toothpaste won't get out. Her name is Linda, and she wears a pendant of an Ankh with the numbers 5632 engraved on the back. Her hair is held out of her face by a blue stain ribbon, and her nails are short with chipping purple polish. He calls her Lin, she calls him Jus. She came from the South to live in the Mid-Atlantic and start a farm. When she kisses him, he kisses her back with all his might and emotions overwhelm her to the highest degree. The day after Saint Patricks, he tells her he has to go, and she tells him she understands. He expected to hear one familiar phrase that would have made him stay in Virginia for the rest of his days, and she says, I hope you have a good time.
And he leaves.
