Hello again! Amina here.^_^ Tell me have you ever stopped to think about something really stupid? And then turn it into something incredibly creative and twisted? Well I do this often enough. And that's where I get a great deal of my ramblings from in fact., but today I had an even more bizzare idea. I was driving in the car with my mother and one of my friends, when I was hit by something (mentally) so of course I asked a question. "Say Mum, what do you suppose subtittled Speed Racer would be like?" I suddenly blurted out with no warning. After many baffled seconds I decided to press the issue. "I mean didn't you ever think that maybe they were saying something important in those few seconds of incomprehensable laughter?" My mom replied with a evil cackle, only a skill which a mother can do properly mind you, "No dear, it's never even occured to me." She resumed her laughter, but was now joined with the giggling of my friend. I was still not willing to give in to their mind warping infexibilety. I'd show them that there was something to my thought! "Well maybe Speed Racer had some simbolism that was cut in the translation perhaps something that we Americans couldn't handle at that time? Or Maybe! Maybe they really DID laugh in the Japanese version!" The rest of the car were now lost in their laughter. Mocking my idea as if it had been some sort of joke. I wouldn't settle for that! " I know! I bet Speed Racer was like Evangelion (for those of you who have seen Evangelion you know it is the most confusing TV show ever made and that the plot was so bizzare and simbolic no one really got it). Yeah! That's it! I bet the Mach 5 was actually Speed Racer's mother! Who was killed in some sorta driving acident! And Speed raced to hide his true identity because he was convicted with her murder! And Racer X was trying to instigate insturmentallety! And he's the real enemy and the other drivers are trying to prevent a probably 3rd impact!" I was satisfied with my new theory, and thought it made quite a lot of sense. The others obviously didn't get it, because they were still laughing. But then... "I bet Speed was trying to recognise gay rights!" Mom shouted out suddenly admist her laughter. A political view? I thought. "And the other drivers were for inequalety!!!" She then broke into manical laughter for some odd reason, but obviously she was listening since she had come up with such a brilliant theory. And at that point our car ride ended, but I now have a new perspective on Speed Racer. That the seemingly stupid and repedative show that used to warp children's minds in the 70s what actually the most intelectually challenging and depthful TV show of it's time addressing many current issue's such as religion, armagedon as well as societal views and political stances through a fairly entertaining plot. |
