| Requirements: -At least 4 pages (including the page that's already written, the focused description paper) -12-point font, typed, double-spaced -Cover sheet with name, date, hour, and a title For this assignment you will be writing a short story. You will use the descriptive paper that you just finished about the painting "America! America!" as a starting point for this story. The page that you wrote describing the painting will be one of the pages of your story. Consider where in the story you want the description to come. It would probably work best as a beginning or end to a story. Brainstorm some ideas; think about your description of the painting. What parts of it do you think have a story to tell? You could tell us about one of the children by the flagpole (or all of them) or perhaps you want to focus on the dog, or the driver of the sled in the background. Or maybe there's someone inside the schoolhouse watching all of this going on and that's the person you're going to tell us about. The possibilities are endless. When writing this story, keep in mind the elements of a story that you learned earlier in the school year. They should be present in your story: 1. Exposition - The beginning of the story that sets the stage. 2. Rising action - The plot thickens; conflict is introduced. 3. Climax - The highest point of tension in the story; the turning point 4. Falling action - Loose ends are tied up; story comes to an end Rough draft due Friday, February 7th Final copy due Friday, February 14th |
