Athletics?

I am sometimes amazed to see what activities are classified as sport. To me sport is an athletic activity, something where you are required to at least perform some moderately strenuous physical exertion. Some of the activities classified as sport certainly do not meet this criteria.

Take golf. Here we have a really boring leisure activity where a bunch of people hit a small white ball and try to put it in a small hole some distance away. They hit the ball and then stroll after it or maybe even get into a four wheeled vehicle made specifically for the purpose of transporting players who are too lazy to walk. This is not sport, there is no athleticism involved. To qualify it as a sport, some new elements need to be added to this game because that's what it is, a game. How about after hitting the ball, the player has 30 seconds to hit the ball again. Now that's sport, golfers chasing the ball in a mad dash.

Hunting is another activity that is no sport. You sit somewhere with your rifle and wait for a unsuspecting deer to stroll by, happily minding it's own business when all of the sudden, WHAM! Let's make it more interesting so that this can be called a sport. Instead of a rifle, give the hunter a club to hunt the deer. Now this is sport. More often than not you will see the hunter running and screaming while the deer slams them in the butt.

Yet another so-called sport is car racing. What is so sporty about driving a car in a circle, really fast? Granted, you can't be a fat slob because you won't fit behind the wheel and the extra weight will slow you down. So, to make this more athletic, here is what I suggest. Before they get into the car and take off, each racer need to do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 pull-ups. The moment the racer finishes these, they need to run 100 meters to the car and only then can they race.

Finally, the least sporty of the pseudo sports, bass fishing. It is amazing how you can call an activity like this sports. Fat slobs sitting in a boat, waiting for a fish to bite. If sitting on your ass is sport than we are all world class athletes. Of course, I have some ideas to introduce some athletic elements. Instead of a boat, use a platform in the middle of the lake and each participant needs to swim to it. Add a few hungry piranah to speed up the process of getting to the platform. Of course you'd have to swim to the platform in your entire fishing gear.
