To bring up a very appropriate quote by Redd Foxx, "Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing." Death is inevitable so why not enjoy life while you can. This includes good food and health food is definitely not good, it is bland. Fat free or low fat, you say, is good for your health. So is air and water but does it taste good? No. You might as well be nibbling on rice crackers, because it is all just the same.
How many health fanatics do you know who know how to enjoy a juicy, medium rare steak? How about real ice cream, the kind that has more fat and cholesterol in it than ten servings of health food? Maybe a fully loaded baked potato? I bet not too many. They just sit there, poking at their salads with the fat free dressing on the side, hoping the dressing really is fat free. They worry about everything and anything that they consume, whether it be a stick of celery or a glass of juice. At the tip of the iceberg you find those who actually count their calorie intake, "I took a bite of that carrot, that means an additional x calories ... OH NO, I exceeded my daily allowance, I am gaining too much weight." Give me a break!
Besides being a necessity for survival, food should and can be very enjoyable. This of course means preparing it right, using the right ingredients, for example real butter. I love butter, churned butter. It tastes good and makes an excellent ingredient for many dishes. Oh, and not to forget, sugar. Not only does it taste better, its better for you than artificial sweetener. I'm sure all those health nuts are going nuts by now. It is true, sugar is better, it doesn't pickle your intestines. I could go on and on but no, I'll just quit and leave off with one of my favorite pasta sauces, easy to make and very tasty.
In a frying pan, heat 1/4 cup of real butter and 1/4 cup of olive oil, add fresh ground pepper, some garlic, and a little chopped Italian parsley (for color). Add this to spaghetti cooked in salted water. There, easy and tasty and fatty, Yummmm.
