As predicted last week Becky Baeling moves to the top for her first Number 1 on my chart. I expect quite a long stay for Becky as my interest in this song just keeps growing and growing. The nearest competition comes from Delta Goodrem at Number 3 but I doubt "Lost Without You" will be strong enough to take over. Other comepetition comes from Reina who charges ahead 5 places to land at Number 5 with "No One's Gonna Change You". Other tracks making headway in the Top 10 are Leann Rimes with "Suddenly", which moves ahead two spots to 6 and "Stronger" by Sugababes may be stuck at 7 but they manage to retain their bullet again this week. Celine Dion enters the Top 10 this week with "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" from her "A New Day Has Come" cd. I expect Celine to have a couple more hits from this cd and was quite surprised when she released her new "One Heart" cd so quickly. I suppose she's making up for the time she took off. I must admit I never understood why there was such a song and dance made over her time away. Other artists do the same thing. These days it's not unusual for an artist to wait 2-3 years between cd's.
This week there are 7 new entries with a duet for Darren Hayes leading the pack at 64. "Right Dead Back On It" is a b-side to his song "Crush" and features vocals from Elisa Fiorillo. Elisa was a favourite of mine in the late 80's having sung lead on the hit by Jellybean, "Who Found Who". Her solo career never really took off with her biggest hit being "On The Way Up" which to my recollection made Number 28 or 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also had a couple of other tracks that I really loved, "How Can I Forget You" and "Forgive Me For Dreaming". She disappeard for most of the 90's but I do remember reading that she was singing backing vocals for Billie Myers and Savage Garden which I guess leads to her association with Darren Hayes. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to find Elisa's vocals on this track and after checking out her web-site, I've found she has released a new cd of her own which I have just ordered. You can check out Elisa here ElisaFiorillo.com .....Up next at 65 is the new one for Christina Aguilera called "Fighter". It's taken me a while to get into this track but I fell in love with it after listening to the lyrics. It has quite a message for anyone who's been dumped!!! .....It's Darren Hayes again at 72 with "Where You Want To Be" which is a b-side to "I Miss You" which was a nice track but didn't really do it for me. This one sees Darren singing about running into someone you used to be involved with and asking if your life has turned out the way you thought it would. I like it.....A new/old one for Whitney at 75 with "Fine". I never got into this song when it was released on her greatest hits cd. The original was a full on r&b jam but now I've come across a mix by Rob Girellini which takes the track to a whole new level. If you haven't heard this mix, I strongly recommend it. Look for another great Whitney track to debut in a couple of weeks, the Peter Rauhofer edit of "Love That Man".....Further down at 84 is Jessica Simpson with quite an old song for her. It's "Your Faith In Me" which was on her first cd. Like the short lived "Sunlight" from last week by Natalie Imbruglia, I discovered this song on the Dotmusic forums where someone was raving about it. It's a nice ballad and should do reasonably well for her on my chart.....Next at 97 is Moby with "In My Heart" which hasn't set my world on fire and it just managed to scrape in this week. If I don't find a good mix for this, it could be it's one and only week.....Finally at 100 is "Miss You So" by Think About Cosmos. The mix I have is by Beatchuggers who I've never heard of and if I had to sum it up in one word I'd say 'DARK'. It really is quite haunting though and it could do well on my chart.
Power Picks...After giving an explanation last week on how Power Picks are awarded, I thought I would differentiate between the two winners this week. First up at 35 is Madonna with "American Life". Madonna won the Airplay pick last week as well and this week I bought the full length cd. I don't think it deserves the bad reviews I've been reading. I figure the critics are thinking it's about time they panned Madonna again. I mean her music hasn't been shunned since 1992's "Erotica" and with all the controversy over the whole "American Life" video and her movie "Swept Away", which I just bought on DVD and isn't all that bad, I figure rather than actually listening to the music, the critics will pan it based on the bad publicity.....The Sales pick goes to Spice Girls once again this week with "Weekend Love". That means for two weeks in a row the Power Picks are exactly the same. As I mentioned last week, "Weekend Love" is doing very well on the Sales Chart moving ahead 18 places this week while only moving ahead 1 on the Airplay chart. Will the girls get much higher than 68? Unless I really start listening to this song every day I don't think so but we'll see next week.
For a few weeks I've been thinking about charting some older tracks that I'm listening to but after thinking about it, I decided I wanted to keep my chart fairly current, charting songs that are out now or new mix edits or older songs that I've only just discovered. This week I add a new list of older songs that I've been listening to. It's not really a chart as such but something which includes all the older tracks I've been getting into for the week.
