*Weeks In & Highest Position may not be accurate. Figures are only from the last 9 weeks when the chart re-started.
For the fourth week in a row we have 10 new entries and leading the pack is Kristine W at 58 with "Some Lovin'". I have been a fan of Kristine for quite a few years now and I have to say how disappointing it is that Kristine still can't seem to find the mainstream success that she deserves. In my opinion this woman has it all. An unbelievable voice, great songwriting skills and she is truly beautiful. So why are artists who have much less talent charging up the charts? It's a travesty if you ask me. Anyway, I'm charting this track based on the great Peter Rauhofer remix and you can check out Kristine's web-site here KristineW.com .....Next up at 61 is a band that I normally wouldn't go for, Evanescence. While a track called "Bring Me To Life" is making waves around the world, I've tuned in to the other track from the "Daredevil" soundtrack, "My Immortal". There is only one word I can use to describe this track, 'beautiful'. I can't get enough of it. I think it'll be a strong contender for the Number 1 position in a few weeks. The song isn't grunge or metal or anything like that but just a piano and some strings and one of the most haunting melodies I've heard in a while. I'm even getting into some of the band's other harder stuff.....Like Kristine W, Billie Ray Martin is an artist I've loved for a very long time and this track is a re-release that is charging up the Billboard Club Chart. "Honey" comes in at 64 and for anyone who doesn't have a copy of her fantastic "Deadline For My Memories" cd, what are you waiting for? "Honey" isn't on that one but it has the equally amazing "Your Loving Arms". Get It!.....Further down at 77 is Atomic Kitten with a track co-written by Susanna Hoffs from the Bangles, "Love Doesn't Have To Hurt". I must admit, I wasn't so into this track when I first heard it and it's taken a few weeks for me to chart it. I thought there were other tracks on their cd that were a lot stronger for single release but the more I hear it, the more I love it and I still haven't heard the apparently brilliant Love To Infinity remix that everyone is raving about at the moment.....The original Australian 'Popstars' winners, Bardot enter right behind at 78 with a sweet balled called "Before I Let You Go". The girls disbanded the group a while ago now but the inclusion of a new mix of the track "Don't Call Me" on the Mardi Gras cd sparked some new interest in their last cd. I'm not sure how this track will go, due to the fact that high profile band member Sophie Monk will be debuting her new song "Get The Music On" in a couple of weeks. I've had Sophie's track for the past couple of weeks but I've got so much new music that I'm a little behind at the moment.....Next up at 80 are the Dixie Chicks and what can I say about them that hasn't been said already? I don't know whether I truly like this song or whether it's all the controversy that surrounds the group. I do know that I disagree with the stance that US radio are taking with the group. In a land where freedom of speech is supposed to be everyone's right, why are these girls being punished? Anyway, I suppose politics is best left for discussion via another avenue.....Enrique Iglesias comes in at 87 with "Love To See You Cry" thanks to it finally seeing an official release in Australia. As you can probably tell from my chart, I don't get into a lot of male singers and I would have to say that along with Andreas from Alcazar, Enrique would be my favourite. The fact that they are both absolutely gorgeous would have nothing to do with it would it?.....Not much to say about the next one at 92, it's Madonna with another one of those remix edits that I found. This time it's "Music". Don't blink because I think this will be it's one and only chart appearance.....94 sees a new chart hit for Natalie Imbruglia with "Sunlight". I only came across this track by accident - I was reading a post on the Dotmusic forums about great album tracks and this one was mentioned. I have to agree and I hope it does well for Natalie here.....Finally, from "Sunlight" to "Sunrise", Simply Red debut at 95 with what would be their first hit on my chart. Time will tell how far I'll get into this track, it's really the sample of the old Hall & Oates song "I Can't Go For That" that's really doing it for me.
Power Picks...Before I talk about this weeks picks, I just want to give a brief explanation on how these are awarded. The actual weekly chart that you're reading now is made up of 2 separate charts - the Airplay chart and the Sales Chart. Very much like Billboard and Craig's Top 50 link . While some songs make huge leaps on the chart, other songs like one of this weeks winners "Weekend Love" by Spice Girls, moves up only 5 places. This is due to the fact that on the Airplay chart the track is doing quite badly but on the Sales chart the girls move ahead 18 places. Maybe I should differentiate between the 2 Power Picks each week. I'll decide in time for next weeks chart.....The other Power Pick this week goes to Madonna as "American Life" charges up 32 places to land at 50. As far as airplay goes for this track, I've been playing it all week thanks to me buying the two cd singles available. I can't wait for the whole album. Madonna has been in my life for so long now she actually feels like an old friend whenever I play her music. I wonder if anyone else feels the same!
Well that's my chart for this week.
Any comments?
Until next time, take care.
Brett
