J Turn, reverse 180: 1. stop vehicle immediately (skidding is likely) 2. reverse full speed 3. disengage clutch 4. engage emergency brake simulatneously w/ step #5. 5. w/ left hand, turn steering wheel from 12 o'clock position to 6 o'clock (clockwise for left j-turn, counter-clockwise for right j-turn) 6. before complete 180 rotation, return steering position to 12 o'clock and release the parking brake. (at 90 degrees) 7. shift into first and engage clutch upon reaching full 180 and accelerate away from danger.
Bootleg turn, forward 180: 1. maintain forward speed at 30 mph 2. disengage clutch 3. engage emergency brake simultaneously w/ step #4. 4. w/ left hand, turn wheel from 12 o'clock position to 6 o'clock (clockwise for left 180 turn, counter-clockwise for right 180 turn. Note: left 180 is preferred for US driving) 5. return to 12 o'clock position and disenegage the parking brake once front end reaches 90 degrees. 6. shift into first, re-engage clutch and accelerate away from danger
Evasive Driving Techniques -when confronted w/ a road block, ambush or the need to quickly change direction such as in a chase, then apply either of the following techniques; the bootleg turn or the j-turn. The bootleg is much faster to implement b/c you are already in forward motion. It is also much easier to apply. However, if the roadblock is too close then try the j-turn maneuver. The Jeep Wrangler can do both manuevers w/ its stock height and swaybars still attached. However, 4 wheel drive must be disengaged. Other moves include ramming. Such manuevers are dangerous as well as extremely stressful on the tires and suspension and are to be reserved strictly for emergency situations. Note: SUV rollover is likely due to a high center of gravity, standard vehicle rollover is also possible if obstacles are encountered such as curbs and speedbumps. Manuevers pose a risk to the driver and 3rd parties. Use this information at your own risk.
Stopped Vehicle Roadblock Breakthrough: 1. maintain 30mph 2. strike the laterally parked vehicle at one end, preferably the rear which is lighter. 3. accelerate through the ambush
Offensive 180 Spin Against Moving Vehicle Blocking from Front: 1. wait for a turn or bend in the road 2. ram the blocking vehicle's rear corner which is located on the outer edge of the turn (if the road curves left, then attack the right corner, if the road curves right then attack the left corner. 3. blocking vehicle will enter a 180 degree spin and lose control.
Parallel w/ Attack Vehicle: A hostile vehicle is attempting to run you off the road or shoot at you while positioned side-by-side. Option 1. get behind the attack vehicle (preferred technique) -brake immediately and manuever behind the attack vehicle and engage in "offensive 180 spin" technique described. Option 2: Parallel Counter-Ramming (if option 1 is not possible due to yet another vehicle behind) -when vehicle attempts to ram, counter w/ ramming of your front bumper into attack vehicles wheel-well. then re-attempt option 1.
