A Games note from Lyndle:

I'm looking forward to a 4 September Games challenge.   As soon as the weather gets warm enough I will be able to paint equipment for the last two lanes.   That will give us 6 lanes for all the basic games. Stacy is getting tennis and golf balls and Leigh 55-gal drums.  Everything is being built IAW the USPC Rules for Games Competition 2003.  By early spring everything should be finished for the following games:

Ball and Bucket Race

Ball and Cone

Ball and Racket

Balloon

Bending

Bottle

Carton Race  (not sure of proper carton)

Egg & Racquet

Five Flag

Golf Ball & Spoon Race

Hi-Lo Race

Housewife's Scurry

Hula-Hoop Race

Litter Race

Mug Shuffle

Needle & Thread Race

Old Sock Race

Pony Express

Postman's Chase

Potato Race

Ring Race

Rope Race

Sack Race

Stepping-Stone Dash

Sword Race

Three-Legged Race

Three Mug Race  (could only find enamel mugs)

Two-Flag Race

Windsor Castle Race

I would also like to add a couple of the following games, especially Pony Club, if I can get the time.

The Canadian Race (Not sure about proper stick)

Fishing Race

Hurdle Race

Mug Race   (could only find enamel mugs)

Pony Club Race

Pyramid Race

Spillers Pole Race

Tack Shop Race

Tool Box Race

(This is a complete list of all games in the current Rulebook)  In short, we could easily have an event with most of the games in March.  Would anyone be interested in inviting the Marlboro kids for a mini-challenge as soon as the weather breaks?

The Carton race uses a 1-litre plastic carton.  When Pony Club goes to the Mounted Games Association (MGA) equipment we would have to buy their equipment.  In the mean time it looks like the clear plastic tubes tennis balls are sold in are nearly perfect.  We need four per lane, times 6 lanes, plus a couple for spares.  If anyone plays tennis or knows someone that does, can you ask him or her to save the empty cans for me?

Because of the uncertainty associated with the switch to MGA, I am very reluctant to spend any more TIME or money on materials to build more games.  That means the following games are not on my list at the moment: Canadian, Fishing, Hurdle, Mug (5-mug), Pony Club, Pyramid, Spillers Pole, Tack Shop, and Tool Box).  If anyone thinks we just have to have any of these let me know and I might be persuaded to do the work if someone else foots the bill.

Also.  A couple of people have asked about making some basic equipment for personal practice, etc.  I have figured out cheap ways to make just about everything.  Just contact me, Lyndle Schenck, at 301 934 4769, and I will point you in the right direction or help make things as time permits.  Plus some of my throw away’s would be ok for practice stuff.   Remember though that the MGA equipment and rules will be very different (Not necessarily better - or worse.  Just different.)

Dressage Lesson overview

Aileen has continued to organize lessons for the kids.  With winter finally arriving, the concentration has shifted to dressage lessons at Aileen's indoor, with riding instructor, Judy Whyte, on Sunday afternoonsJudy Whyte recently moved to our area from Upper Marlboro.  She is currently riding and showing 4th level this year on her magnificent Cheraz.   Judy went through extensive training by the British Horse Society in Scotland before immigrating to our country.  She has concentrated on Dressage for the past 10 years, however most of her experience was in jumping before focusing on dressage.  She rode as a whip for the Plumrun Hunt in Pennsylvania when she first immigrated.  She is a great addition to our Pony Club world.

The turn out for the lessons has been tremendous, with 3 groups of Pony club kids, 4 to each class participating.  Several of the mom's have joined in for a group lesson at the end of the day, "you go moms!".  As lessons continue through the day, Jessica Schenck, Erin Wingo, who both recently got their C-1 rating, along with Jamie Finley and Krystal Allen, have been able to take advantage of the wonderful weather and great cross country facilities at Aileen's, and enjoy an afternoon of galloping around hay fields and over super jump courses.   A big thank-you to the Hopkins for letting the Pony Club kids use your facilities!

Games Day @ Oakridge

A big thank you to Kim, Leigh for a very successful games day Sunday January 4th at Oakridge.  With 60-degree temps in January it was hard not to have a big turnout for a fun PC day!  Rachel W., Sam W, Sammie S., Mallory L., Krystal A., Jessica and Megan S., Jamie F., Maegan H., Brooke F., and little Haley rounded out the group.  A good time was had by all!!

A special thanks to everyone from me!  I wanted to thank everyone for their patience with Haley and I for her first outing on her new pony and her VERY FIRST pony club meeting!  She was quite impressed with Rachel and Sam, and says that she wants to try vaulting on Oby!

Again thank you for being patient with us and making her feel very welcome!  She had a blast!  It makes a horse mom and graduate De La Brooke Pony Clubber proud to have girls like you for her to look up to!  Thanks!

Games summary from Sharon

Kim Welniak and Leigh Stalter started off the New Year with a stupendous games practice.  Nearly everyone turned out to enjoy the gorgeous day on Sunday at Oak Ridge Park.  There were new ponies, and new kids and old ponies and old kids, old kids on new ponies, new kids on old ponies.   It was a blast!

Sammy Stalter started off with a magnificent Lone Ranger imitation, but soon got Jack working in fine order.

Our newest pony club member Haley Blend showed off her wonderful new pony (Oby), who seems like he is going to take very good care of her.

Mallory Lengle and Ashes made a fantastic team.  For a while there, we wondered if it was the same Ashes, then of course we did see some of the old Ashes shine through.  Good pony, you ride her well Mallory!

Rachel and Sam Welniak showed what games is all about on their two sporting ponies.  Although, we wondered why Rachel kept trying to vault over her pony instead of on him.

Megan Schenck and Sadie Rose made a sweet team and went through every game like old champs.

Jamie Finley and Skylark made a great team, after Skylark established that, even though he was a good pony, he was not above getting down and dirty, if the situation called for it.  Great riding Jamie!

PC Logo stuff

At the sponsors meeting I was asked to look into getting patches for saddle pads for the club.  I can get them!  I should know a definite price with in a few weeks but I need to know who would be interested in them and how many you would want.  So please figure out if you would like them and how many and let me know.

Pony Club Photos

FYI I discovered a website that allows me to post pictures, create albums and store everything online.  This is an easy way for the whole club to go and check out pictures of the club’s activities.  So far the only things that I put up there were pictures from the games practice last weekend.  But I will continue to post pictures up there if everyone likes the idea.  They only allow you to invite 10 people in to see the pictures before you have to pay so I am going to provide you with the member name and password.  Here is the link please copy and paste it into your browser and follow the directions below.

http://www.imagestation.com/

There is a link at the top right hand side that says "already a member sign in here” you will want to click on that.

Member name is:   erinblend  (no spaces)

Password:  bilisi

Then you will want to click on Go to my Imagestation (right hand side of the screen) that will take you to the albums, there are 2 albums right now one named OPRC and one named De La Brooke Pony Club.

If anyone does not want pictures of themselves online please let me know and I will take them off, also please let me know what you think of the site!  Thanks!!!
