Context

§          Through this lesson, students will have fun while learning about the weather and weather patterns.

 

Objectives

§          Students should be able to distinguish between different weather patterns.

§          Students should be able to make basic predictions about the weather outside.

 

Connections

SC-EP-2.3.2      Students will describe patterns in weather and weather data in order to make simple predictions based on those patterns discovered.

Procedures

§          Day One:  Have the students watch the movie about weather patterns.  Afterwards, have them write what they learned and know about weather into their journals.  Have the students tell what the weather is like on this day, and have them predict what it will be like tomorrow.  Write their answers on the board.

§          Day Two:  Visit this website to play some games about weather and the different patterns.  Have them look outside and tell what the weather is for today, and have them predict the weather for tomorrow.  Discuss the student’s predictions from yesterday.

§          Day Three:  Complete virtual field trip to learn about weather and weather patterns.  Have them once again look outside and explain the weather, then have them predict what the weather will be like for tomorrow.  Discuss the student’s predictions from yesterday.

 

 

Assessment Plan

§          Students will be tested by working in groups to create a poster on a weather topic assigned by me.

§          Students will also have to give a brief presentation to the rest of the class teaching what they learned about their topic.

§          Students who correctly predicted the weather for every day will get a special prize.
