Bitner, J. & Bitner, N. (2002) Integrating Technology into the Classroom: Eight Keys to
Success.  Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, 10 (1), 95-100.

Review
The article unfolded with a quote which reads educational change depends on what teachers do and think-its as simple and complex as that. (Bitner, 2002, P. 95). It shared that through their synthesis of research, the assessors developed eight elements that allow the teacher to successfully employ technology to enhance learning.  The eight elements are:
1. fear of change
2. training in basics
3. personal use
4. teaching models
5. learning based
6. climate
7. motivation
8. support
It states that with changes comes anxiety and fear.  Adults are not susceptible to accept change easily however, that type of fear must be overcome.  If students are exposed to the technology use in the classroom, then they are more likely to accept it as the norm.  The first step in enabling technology to be widely used inside and outside of the classroom starts with helping teachers to overcome their fears.  Additionally, technology should not be used to supplant a teacher but only as a tool to efficiently guide and aide teachers with their instruction. It shared the different types of programs that exist where teachers and students can use to promote problem solving skills and organize information.  Lastly, the article closes with insights of ongoing support to readily assist teachers.  Since teachers are so busy and on the go, they do not have the time to sit down and troubleshoot a computer problem.  If there is appropriate staffing to support the needs of teacher, then they will be more incline to implement and integrate technology into their classroom.

Discussion
I can identify with most of the ideas that the article had brought forth.  In regards to fear, I have been down that path many times and often times, I would either walk away in frustration or spend many long hours glued to the computer. What discouraged me at first about applying technology in the classroom is the mere fact that I rarely use it in my everyday activity.  Technology can benefit teachers in so many ways but I am quite aware the problems that one may encounter.  At my school site, there is no such support staff to help me remedy my computer problems or questions.  When I need such assistance, I have to email someone in which the problems are not usually resolved until days or weeks later.  I have such a guilty conscience because I recognize that it is vital that I expose my students to more technology use in the classroom.  In doing so, I will ensure that they have the real life experience with the technological advantages to promote productive life-long members of society. (Bitner, 2002, P. 97)  The required skills of tomorrow is computer knowledge and its application which then would allow me to learn along with my students where we become partners in the learning process.
