LINK'S RAMBLING TALK OF NOTHINGNESS
...A SECTION DEDICATED TO THE OPINIONS AND VIEWS OF THE DUNGMASTER HIMSELF...
MARCH 17, 2002 Just in case you haven't figured it out yet this section of the site is for me to ramble about most anything that I please and whether it makes sense or not is not really important. I do know though, however, that there will be some of you who will actually visit this section from time to time and read through everything that I have to say on whatever particular day that I say it, and I commend you for that. I do recommend coming to this section in a somewhat altered goofy state of mind so everything will be dandy. Today's ramble deals with many things. One of them in particular has to do with Enix of America, the makers of the Dragon Warrior games here in the US. Since the new Zelda title will not be here until 2015 I felt the need to look forward to other up and coming titles of video game satisfaction to help ease my pain. I was thrilled to death when I picked up my copy of Dragon Warrior 7 and saw in an ad on the back of the game manual that Dragon Warrior 4 was going to be remade for the Playstation and would be released sometime in 2002. Ever since November of 2001 I have been greatly anticipating this title to be released on this side of the globe. A few weeks ago it was canned. You have no idea how upsetting this is. For those of you who have no idea what Dragon Warrior 4 is, it's a great game that deals with a legendary hero who comes and saves the world. Even though this might sound like a somewhat typical story, the way it is presented is better than most. I think I'm going to have to say that my favorite turn-based RPG (notice I did not say action-RPG because it would be a Zelda title) is Lunar the Silver Star Story, but Dragon Warrior 4 has to be a close second if not a tie with Lunar. The only problem with Dragon Warrior 4 is that it is a NES game. I love playing retro RPG's when I have the time, but the NES sounds and graphics can make your eyes and ears bleed at times. The Playstation game console is of course not up to par with the new technology we have today, but I love it nontheless. I still love playing SUPER NES games because of the feel the games that it boasts enduce. The Playstation has also always given me the same feeling. To see Dragon Warrior 4 on the PSOne would be outstanding. There has been a lot of publicity as to why this has happened and a bunch of rubbish has been sifting around, but the bottom line is that the USA is going to be screwed out of another great game once again. Again, for those of you who don't know what game I'm talking about it's totally understandable since nothing like this is EVER advertised to its fullest potential leaving tons of video game enthusiasts in the dark without a clue. This is truly sad and I can't believe that it's happening but...whatever man. There have been a few campaigns going around the net to try to save this game. If you're interested you can go to dragon-warrior.com and check it out. I designed my own SAVE DW4 banner for their site...whether they will show it or not I do not know, but I thought the banner was awesome to say the least. Once again I am going to whine and say that this sucks but that's about all I have to say on the subject. The next thing I have to address is the overwhelming unresponse to the PROJECT ELFARIA section of the website. I get Email everyday about all of the other aspects of the site except for this one. Does anybody even go there and read what I had to say? Does anyone have any inkling of an interest at all in playing this game in English? I suppose that if no one does then it should be a defunct project to begin with. Maybe this is the reason that the Japanese do not release those games here in the first place. I am a marketing major in college at the moment and am about to gradutate so of course I understand why most games are not released here, but the attitude of the consumers in America really does suck. Most of us want a good hard core story like a Zelda title or a turn based RPG...the smart ones of us that is. A typical video game consumer in America wants to buy NBA 2002 part 17 with new stats, or Race Driving part 17 with enhanced tire squealing. If some of us could pull our heads out of our butts and play a game with a quest, purpose, and ongoing story I guarantee more games would be released on this side of the globe. I have personally always wanted my games to be like a book. The reason why I play them so often is to find out what happens next in the story. It's like an interactive book with characters, villains, love, hate, and the struggle between good and evil. I do not play games to see if I can beat my best friends time on race track 17. I hope this makes sense to everybody and I'm not downing anyone who likes those types of games...but this is my Rant. I'm going to leave everyone with that and go back to wallowing about in the house of dung. Until Next Time, Dungmaster DJ
