" He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying." - Friedrich Nietzcshe
Since I began teaching professionally, I've gotten a great deal of personal fulfillment from instructing self-defense (for women in particular). Empowering women to "fight back" and WIN has always been a huge motivational factor for me. Women have a storehouse of potential that seldom gets tapped into. Unfortunately the world, the martial art world in particular, is still riddled with myths and (although well-meaning) misguided teachers. The arts are one thing- but self protection is a completely different animal. Violence is one brutal, ugly and unrelenting. We are all fearful, by our very nature, of violence. Many women live with the thought that, "It will never happen to me" and that statement just "drives me up the wall."
"Better to have a tool and not need it, than to need it and not have it." - Paul Vanuk
The way to become the person you want to become - a person who exudes confidence and has a deep inner strength - must first acknowledge their fears, and learn the methods and tools necessary to transform fear into power. We are all capable of extraordinary things, we must seek the "extra" from the ordinary.
