TURKISH, LAYER 3

This is my Turkish Coat (Yelek/ Ghawazee coat)... I made it from beautiful green upholstry fabric with an embossed leafy design and black backside... (i didn't feel like lining such an unusual garment the first time i made it!)... I then roll-hemmed all the edges in gold thread and attached gold frogs for closures ( i read that nice coats in the later ottoman period often had all the lines of the garment and embossed designs edged in gold thread.  At the top of the opening (under the breasts) i put a fake gold metal buckle in a leaf-shape so that i could dance with the coat open in a v-shape to show my stomach isolations.  the sleeves can also be closed with gold frogs, but i like the way the drape and swing when open.

(and where am I?  I am in the historic Driskill hotel in new braunfels, texas at a regional v-larp convention where my character is of Turkish-Rom descent... myself and the other Rom characters where the featured entertainment on the main evening:).
