Chapter 88: The Busch Race @ California Raceway
When it was time for the meeting they went to the meeting spot which was Robby�s motor coach.
�Hello and welcome to the pre-meeting,� Robby started the meeting. �Here�s the plan: Jr, Shane, Shawn and Matt are going to meet with Jeff and Jimmie. Jr is carrying their walkie talkie and Tony Jr is gonna carry the crew walkie talkie. If he hears anything of trouble he is to report to all the crews of all drivers and get them to help us out. Mikey, Kevin and Martin just worry about doing good in the Busch race. Don�t worry about Jr and the others.�
�Ok Robby,� Mikey, Kevin and Martin said together.
�Alright Robby did you get the walkie talkies that will work for long hours?� Jr asked.
�Yes I did,� Robby answered. Robby gives Jr his and then gives Tony Jr his. �Ok. Are you ready Jr?�
�Yep got it in a good hiding spot,� Jr told Robby.
�Ok,� Robby said. �Go meet up with Jeff and Jimmie. Good luck!�
So Jr, Shawn, Matt and Shane met up with Jeff and Jimmie.
�Hey guys,� Jeff and Jimmie said. �Where is Martin, Mikey, Robby and Kevin?�
�They have a Busch race today so I thought I�d bring Matt, Shawn and Shane along instead of you don�t mind,� answered.
�We don�t mind at all if you bring Matt, Shawn and Shane with you guys,� Jimmie and Jeff told Jr.
�Then lets go,� Jr said.
Then they headed to Sonics.
�Hey guys there�s like a place I love to go for lunch,� Jimmie started. �Would you mind going there instead of Sonics?�
�Its ok with me,� Jr told them.
�Fine with us,� Shawn and Shane said.
�Sure,� Matt accepted.
So they head to the place that Jimmie wanted to go to. When they got to the place that Jimmie want to go to they went in and sat at a table. When they were sitting at the table the waitress came up and asked what they wanted to drink. They all told the waitress what they wanted to drink and then she left.
Back at the track Jason Leftler and Kyle Busch had fallen out of the race. Chris told Ashley to interview Kyle and Marty to interview Leftler but Ashley didn�t want to due to the fact that Kyle is part of Hendrick Motorsports. But she had to do it anyways or she would lose her job so she did it.
�Lets go down to Ashley who is with Kyle,� Mike said.
�I�m down here with Kyle Busch who has fallen out of the race,� Ashley started. �Kyle what put you out of the event?�
�Well the 99 just got me very loose and turned me around and then the 00 hit me,� Kyle told her.
�Can your crew repair the car and are you ok?� Ashley asked.
�We are going to try to repair the car but I am fine,� Kyle answered.
�Alright lets go to Marty who is with Jason Leftler,� Ashley said.
�Jason what happened out there to put you out of the race?� Marty asked.
�Something happened in front of me when I was trying to get through the mess I hit the 5 car,� Jason answered.
�Is there any chance you will be able to come back into the race?� Marty wondered.
�Yeah it�ll just take tons of work by my crew through,� replied Jason.
�Ok,� Marty said. �Lets go back up to Mike.�
Back in the Hollywood Hotel Chris told Ashley to interview the 4th place crew chef as part of the crew chief reporting deal.
�Ok,� Ashley said. So Ashley heads to the 4th place�s pit box. When Ashley got to the 4th place�s pit box she saw Dalandra up there. Ashley went up and said, �Hey Dalandra. My crew chief is Kevin�s. How weird is that?�
�I know,� Dalandra agreed.
�Yeah,� Ashley said. �Hey Todd! I need to interview you for the telecast. Is this a alright time for you?�
�It�s a good time for me any time,� Todd told her.
�Ok,� Ashley said. �Chris I�m ready whenever ya call me to do the interview.
�Ok,� Chris said. �You can interview him after Matt does his.�
�Ok,� Ashley said. Ashley waited until Matt was done with his interview with the leader.
�Lets go to Ashley,� Matt says.
�And I�m with Todd, crew chief for Kevin Harvick,� Ashley started. �How�s the car Todd?�
�The car is running fine today,� Todd answered.
�Do you have a car to win the race today?� Ashley wondered.
�Yes,� replied Todd.
�Alright lets go back to Mike Joy,� Ashley said. Then after the interview with Kevin�s crew chief Ashley got a call. Ashley answered it. It was Chris. �Hello Chris.�
�Hey Ashley,� Chris said. �Can you do the 2nd place driver in about 20 minutes?�
�Sure,� Ashley accepted.
�Ok,� Chris said. �Thanks. Bye!�
�Bye!� Ashley said. Then Ashley headed over to the 2nd place driver�s pit area. To her surprise it was Martin�s pit. She saw Nicole on the pit box. �Hey Nicole! I just got done interviewing Todd and now to my surprise I get to interview BONO. Like does Chris know about you know what and he�s kind of planning it this way?�
�No I don�t,� Nicole answered. �Why?�
�I am just wondering,� replied Ashley. �Cause I didn�t tell him about me and Jr but I mean this is getting weird how I get to interview both of you guys.�
�Oh ok,� Nicole said.
�Anyways I gotta do the interview now with BONO,� Ashley changed the topic.
�Ok,� Nicole said. �See you later.�
So Ashley went over to where BONO was and said, �Hey BONO can ya spare a minute for a interview?�
�Sure,� BONO accepted.
�Ok,� Ashley said. �Chris I�m ready.�
�Ok,� Chris said. �Just wait until Matt is finished with his interview.�
�Ok,� Ashley said.
When Matt finished up he said, �Lets go to Ashley who�s with Martin�s crew chief.�
�And I�m down here with Kevin Manion,� Ashley starts. �How�s the car?�
�The car is doing well,� replied BONO.
�Do you think you can catch leader Michael Waltrip?� Ashley wondered.
�Yes we can catch him,� BONO answered.
�Alright lets go back up to Mike Joy and the boys,� Ashley finished off the interview. After it was sent up to the booth she received a call from Jr. �Hello.�
�Hey sweetie,� Jr said. �I�m just letting you know that everything is going well here.�
�Cool,� Ashley commented. �You know what I found weird so far today? I had to do the crew chief interviews just a bit ago and you know that for some reason I got to interview both Kevin and Matt? Like I dunno what to think of that. Did you tell Chris about us being together or something close to it?�
�That is weird,� Jr comments. �I haven�t told no one about us.�
�I was just thinking about it,� Ashley told him. �Well I gotta go. Gotta keep up on race notes incase they need driver stuff. Good luck with the rest of your meeting with Jimmie and Jeff.�
�Thanks and I will talk with you later,� Jr said. �Bye Ashley.�
�Bye,� Ashley said. They Chris called after she was done with Jr. �Hello.�
�Ok,� Chris said. �I would like you to talk to the winner of the race when the race is over ok?�
�Ok,� Ashley accepted.
�Thanks,� Chris thanked her.
�No problem Chris,� Ashley assured him.
�Ok,� Chris said said. �See you after the interviews are over for a quick meeting. Bye!�
�Alright bye,� Ashley said. Then she headed to victory lane since the race was almost over.
Back up in the booth they were calling the finish which was gonna be a close one. When the checker flag was out Martin beat Mikey by half a car length. Martin then did his post race celebrations and then headed to victory lane.
