Missing you, Dad

By: Lisa Matthis

It’s been almost two years, since you’ve gone away
You left this world too soon, seems we all needed you to stay
But the world has not stopped turning and they still race out on the track
And it just still seems a little strange without our favorite "man in black".

Now your son has come into his own, for this I’d bet you’re proud.
Just listen when he is introduced, the cheers for him are loud.
He’s changed over the last two years, he’s grown a lot, it’s true,
I’m sure there are times out there that he still really misses you.

If there is racing up in heaven, you’re a star still to this day,
For your memories that you left us fans will never fade away.
Some now cheer Dale JR, for he’s the son of a son of a son.
A Winston Cup Champion like you, we hope one day he’ll become.

He owns his own team now, with Teresa by his side.
This is just another thing that would fill your heart with pride.
He is his own man, speaks his mind, has a sense of humor with his fans.
He still loves the beach, listens to rock n roll, has even drummed with the band.

The real part of being father and son, is the advice that comes from a dad
Sometimes you listen and sometimes you don’t, but it could be the best you ever had.
The important thing that Jr should realize, of his life your were the part
That guided him and his racing career, and loved him from the bottom of his "hardt"
