For Martha…. From my heardt
By: Lisa Matthis
I can’t believe I’ve been alone for almost thirty years
I can’t remember a week going by I didn’t shed a tear.
I still miss the way you’d smile, and I think of you each day
And wish that you were still here with me, in each and every way.
I can’t believe three years ago, it happened once again,
The racing world had to say good-bye to another dear friend
I still miss the way you’d smile, and think of you each day,
And wish that you were still here with me, in each and every way.
I can’t believe how time rolls by, the tradition races on.
This young man has grown up too fast, he’s my cherished son’s son.
I worry so much, when he leaves to go on to the next race at the track
He carries on, and honors his dad, that famous "man in black"
I do believe I stand with pride, to carry the Earnhardt name
I still hold my breath at the drop of the green flag just the same.
I’ll continue to watch my grandson race, I know a champion he’ll be
For that is what the Earnhardt men do, that is their destiny.
