What is this newsgroup/mailing list for?

The purpose of alt.games.torg and the TORG mailing list is to provide a forum for discussion of the TORG roleplaying game originally published by West End Games and currently licensed to Omni Gaming Products. Because there is not a Masterbook or Shatterzone newsgroup they may be discussed in alt.games.torg but not on the TORG list as there is now a seperate Masterbook mailing list for those games. WEG's new D6 game system should probably be discussed elsewhere but for now it's been accepted on the Masterbook list. Newsgroup discussion about D6 can usually be found in rec.games.frp.misc.

Do I need to read both the newsgroup and mailing list?

It's not necessary and in general the newsgroup is fairly dead, buried beneath the advertising spam that floods all alt.* newsgroups and suffering from a decline in propagation that keeps most posts from being widely distributed and read.

How do I subscribe to the mailing list?

Send email to the listserver at [email protected] and make the first line of your message:

subscribe torg "your name"

but don't put brackets around your name! If you wish to subscribe to the Masterbook mailing list just substitute "masterbook" for "torg" and use the same address.

To send a posting to the mailing lists the address you use is [email protected] or [email protected]. The listserver will only accept posts from people who are subscribed to the list.

How do I unsubscribe from the mailing list?

To unsubscribe, send mail to the listserver address and make the first line of your message either

unsubscribe torg

or

signoff torg

or substitute "masterbook" for the Masterbook list.
