Darkfell Keep was formally the residence of Karfewte the Guardian, a powerful wizard who was most well known for his defensive spells. Karfewte raised Darkfell with his art within a week. He intended it to serve as home, a place of study, and a giant monument to his power. Unfortunately, an enemy of his managed to invert his spells one night and Darkfell became a summons spot for one of the outer planes. A strange glowing orb surrounded on of the lesser towers on that night. It disappeared a dozen years later, and legend says that Karfewte used his magic to hold off his enemies for that long. It is known that after then, the number of fiends in Darkfell was far, far fewer.
Over the years, darkfell has attracted all manner of creatures and monsters. About the only creature type never to take up residence there have been dragons (although a few have tried, and the bones of at least on of those still lie in the inner courtyard). Darkfell has been a blot on the landscape of Seriathior for 250 years. Creatures out of Darkfell are held responsible for the destruction of the seawall at the sack of Seasfar (following the death of Nistar Biblade).
Darkfell is an enigma. Its content have never been totally revealed. It has been beseiged twice (both times with grave consequences for the beseigers), and partially reduced. It has been the sight of battles between monsters over dominion of the keep many times. Currently it is a rapidly crumbling ruin (it is thought that the spells Karfewtes used in its creation are finally beginning to wear off). It has been quiet of late, and it is thought that whatever horrors lurk within it are few, but very powerful.
Recently, several seers have claimed to have seen the castle in thier dreams. This bodes ill for the world if the dark powers are rising once again. It is almost certain that Darkfell plays an important roll in whatever events are shaping in Seriathior...
